Every presidential candidate is expected to pay a ghostwriter to write a memoir about the sheer wonderfulness of being him and the lessons he learned along the way.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s was titled, “Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery.” Maybe it should have been titled “Middle Aged Man in a Hurry to Put Donor Money in His Pockets” instead.
Who was really going to plonk down thirty bucks (currently ten and change at Walmart) to read how Newsom at once insisted he was a poor kid with dyslexia and a favorite stepscion of the Getty clan who took him to meet the King of Spain? Unsurprising, Gavin Newsom proved to be his biggest fan.
On Wednesday, new federal records revealed that Mr. Newsom’s political action committee paid $1,561,875 to buy and distribute copies of his book through the donation program.
“Make a contribution of ANY AMOUNT today and I will send you a copy,” he wrote.
It turned out about 67,000 supporters did just that. The books those donors received account for roughly two-thirds of the print copies of the memoir that have been sold.
His campaign argues that there were no royalties on those copies, but that’s obvious. Otherwise he would be directly moving money from his PAC into his pockets which would be arguably illegal. (With pols and campaign finance, everything is ‘arguable’.)
Newsom’s advance is calculated against the profits that the publisher makes from the book. And the willingness of the publisher to put it out and promote the book is also factored in.
Gavin Newsom reportedly received up to $100K as a book advance. He may not make royalties from most of the copies sold, but the PAC copies help make the book a bestseller, which leads to more regular sales.
So he’s profiting from the PAC spending anyway.

Gruesome NewScam and his San Quentin pity party wife who made her husband and sons play with dolls to feminize them – is a sick son of satan who is going to find out just because aunt Nasty Nutzie nazzi PeeLousy got away with puling the wool over California voters eyes, Gruesome NewScam cannot pull the wool over the entire USA – stick with Commiefornia – they’ll drink anything
Why are there so many (I was going to say scumbags, but decided to tone it down) nut jobs in CA politics? Newsom, Pelosi, Swalwell, Schiff, Mad Maxine, just a few? It’s as if there were something in West Coast water or maybe it’s that they’re awake 3 hours after people in the east are snoozing and have those extra hours to contemplate the value of crap.
A phony in just about everything he does…
Typical democrat.
I had two copies of Newscum’s book on the dash of my car. Someone broke in and left two more copies.
And this was totally legitimate, legal, within the guidance of the FEC?
Arguably probably not, but Demokkkraps have spent decades not merely bending the laws to their benefit, but mutilating them.
All they need is one corrupt ruling to set a precedent.
Cut the weasel some slack. It’s the only way liberal books can sell.
Ann Coulter, in “Slander” did a master class breakdown on how liberals cross promote their books with their courtier press allies & blackball conservative books (which sell well in spite of it.)
It’s also noteworthy that liberal idiots habitually fail in talk radio.
Air America was a joke on life-support; enticing Al Franken’s goon, Evan Cohen, to raid a Bronx children’s charity “The Gloria Wise Club” for $480,000 to keep the lackluster radio show afloat.
(Leftists lose focus after five minutes, so books & radio fail in woke circles.)
Greasy Low IQ Gavin has clearly violated federal law (FECA) by using PAC funds for personal use. This is serious, and he should be charged, tried and convicted. Let’s see what kind of hand waving he’ll do when hardened convicts get hold of his “best selling book” ass in the prison showers.
In 1989, Speaker Jim Wright was receiving bribes; sanitized by his book “Reflections of a Public Man” being bought in massive quantities & stored on crates in a warehouse.
He was the 1st Speaker to step down due to scandal.
(No criminal charges were even considered.)
To be fair, it’s the only way liberal books can sell.
