No member of Congress should be expelled based on “allegations”.
Not even a scumbag like Swalwell.
We’re a Republic with elections and courts. Not media and social media mobs. And people can decide who to vote for.
We’ve had one congressional expulsion in the last twenty years and that followed an indictment.
Talk of expelling Swalwell by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna who, like most members of the GOP Squad, seems to spend most of her time seeking attention while getting very little done, is said to be countered by a Dem motion to expel Rep. Tony Gonzales, who likely already cost Republicans a seat, followed by a legitimate call to expel Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Democrat, who is under indictment, followed by a push to expel Rep. Cory Mills, who hasn’t been charged with anything.
There’s now talk of having some sort of combined mass expulsion of four members of Congress. That’s more than the number of congressional expulsions in generations.
And there’s still only one actual indictment in the bunch. The other three consist of #MeToo stuff. Two of those #MeToo cases are likely based on actual abuses. But that’s a morals question and with Bill Clinton, Democrats and much of the public decided that we don’t expel politicians based on those.
If they committed crimes, indict them. Otherwise let the voters pass judgement.
But we’re talking here about expulsions where there hasn’t even been a House Ethics determination.
That’s a bad precedent that’s likely to backfire. If we start expelling members of Congress based on allegations, then the sky is the limit. I’m leery even of expulsions based on indictments, but by the time a federal indictment happens, there’s usually a good deal of evidence of wrongdoing.
The question isn’t whether Swalwell is guilty. He’s a scumbag. The question is whether we want to allow a dirty pool of equally scummy political operatives to override the results of elections with hit pieces.
Members of the House face imminent rapid elections anyway. That’s by design. If Rep. Swalwell can do any damage by being in Congress, more than he’s already done, it would be due to his ties to China, a legitimate basis for expelling him. If the Manhattan DA’s office (which can’t be bothered to investigate actual crime, but investigates every lefty talking point) indicts Swalwell, then expel him.
At this point the only House member who should be expelled is Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick who was indicted last year and found guilty of multiple ethics violations.
It’s mind-boggling that there’s talk of expelling Swalwell ahead of her. Just by way of reminder…
South Florida Congresswoman Charged with Stealing $5 Million in FEMA Funds
If convicted, Cherfilus-McCormick faces up to 53 years in prison.
Utterly bizarre that she’s still in Congress, but stealing $5 million in taxpayer money is no big deal.

I think this is about swallwell splitting the vote in the California gubernatorial primaries. It smells like a democrat smear, fed to the GOP.
That’s exactly what it is. This came out of the Katie Porter campaign
It’s funny that Swalwell had to drop out of the governor’s race because his own staff was abandoning his campaign.
There is the fund of taxpayer money that is used to payoff sex predators. These political types are not “the best and the brightest”, they are the result of citizens being too busy or lazy to look out for their own future. The list of sleazy people means 99% of DC.
An article on this fund and who has used it would be quite appropriate Daniel. Wednesday would be fine.
Allegations? I think those pictures are worth a thousand words…or in THIS case, allegations.
Pictures don’t lie….
Besides all the lies and slander thrown against Trump…and nothing.
To quote Ayn Rand: “The scumbag belongs in prison where Bubbas of all immense build and race will butt fkkk the POS”
Which is why Pete Buttedge does not fear prison, but fantasize of it.
Dude always looks like he’s coming off a three day bender and sounds like he quit his meds a month ago.
Kind of the old Truman and Eisenhower split with how to deal with McCarthy. One was ineffective and one got the job done.
A good politician recognizes the world and ideas are fungible and that there is little pure in their profession and no moral victories. They know when to lie/politicize things to get things done and recognize when and how they can reframe it for political success, no matter how ridiculous. An article at the Gateway Pundit today talked about how the 17th amendment (state legislators no longer picked US Senators) wrecked the balance of power.
If getting rid of salwell gives the repubes one more vote in keeping Trump from impeachment or one less vote they have to worry about even if it is for a very short term, they should punish the dims for their naked attempt to get one candidate a winner of the preliminary in the jungle primary. salwell is a dangerous political foe. It’s political expediency they do so. Time they were held to some standard. They don’t want to get rid of him and I’d be surprised he doesn’t survive a vote.
Gross it looks like, katie porter will be next Governor of California.
Anyway they’ll just recall a republican
Mr. Greenfield is the only one I have read who is taking this correct and principoled stand.
Swalwell gone is triage at best or treating symptoms. The rotten system remains
Structural!
Fraud Omar needs to go for sure.
