It wasn’t all that long ago that Republicans were pretending they wanted the Epstein files released. Now it’s Democrats who are pretending that they want the Epstein files released.
The reality is that no one wants the Epstein files released. The Dems last of all. Promises to release the Epstein files are sucker bait, because there’s nothing to release. Anyone who starts out promising to release them or the JFK/UFO files eventually ends up having to explain why there’s nothing there.
I was writing about the Epstein case long before many of the current grifters and to state the obvious, there are no files of any significance to release. Anything truly damning is as gone as Hillary’s real emails. Only a crackhead like Hunter Biden would just dump laptops full of damning evidence where anyone could get at it. And if those hard drives had been purely in the province of the FBI, they would have wiped them the way they wiped Hillary’s drives after they had ‘finished’ their investigation.
Or the records of Epstein’s visitor logs during his first term in ‘prison’.
It’s amazing to me that people believe the government is capable of the worst kinds of crimes and yet carefully keeps damning evidence on itself just waiting for the right bureaucrat or appointee to release it. The Communists and Nazis did that kind of thing because they had absolute power and were convinced that they were going to rule the world. They didn’t think in terms of ‘cover-ups’ until much later when they realized they weren’t going to win. Government employees covering up things for powerful people well… cover them up. Sometimes clumsily, like Sandy Berger stuffing documents about Clinton’s Bin Laden policy in his socks. But there is no collection of videos of powerful people assaulting underage girls waiting to be released. If such videos still exist, then you can bet they’ve been winnowed down to protect the particularly influential. And by now everyone ought to know that an upper level Bureau man when confronted with politically explosive stuff like this will find a reason to erase it.
Calls to release the Epstein files will just lead to the release of more useless documents. Everyone in politics knows it. They’re playing a game and lying to you.
As they always do.

I learned decades ago that it’s foolishly naive to trust anything the government says. The government has plenty to hide and the motivation to deceive and lie to the American people with alacrity.
Nobody wants to hear about Jeffrey Epstain. He’s yesterday’s news. Dead, gone and not missed. It’s like talking about the Titanic. Already been there, already done that.
I have always been fascinated by the Titanic. And I want full sunshine on Epstein’s connections to government muckety mucks.
Well, we have different opinions on these subjects. I think this news cycle about Epstain is boring and annoying,
And the Titanic disaster is something that disturbs me. Too many dead people to think about.
It is interesting that there were three ships manufactured in that line, though.
Wow. Who would possibly downvote you on these words? Jeff, I get it. You have a tender heart and thinking of all those dead people is unpleasant and tragic. But I find it an interesting study in humanity — the heroism, gallantry, pride, courage and cowardice.
As for the news cycle, I am not paying attention. I do not subscribe to any television service.
My interest is the same as for Titanic– Epstein’s connections and the varying “explanations” of what happened to him and why. I sense and ugly truth that is likely to reveal character and crimes in those who wield power over us. That matters to me. I don’t care if my motives or character are attacked because I am unable to find fault with myself in this matter – and I am suspicious of anyone who says, “Nothing to see here!” If there is nothing, then I have done my due diligence.
Yes, the dance band kept playing as the Titanic went down. I don’t know if that’s true but it sure sounds heroic.
I once read a short story collection by Jack L Challker named “Dance Band on the Titanic.” It was very good.
I don’t use cable or network TV either. My Samsung TV has 2 or 3 hundred free channels and I have Netflix. To be honest, I don’t even know how to access Network TV. It must be possible but I just don’t care.
And I think you have good character.
How will that sunshine change your life for the better? It won’t give you a tan, that’s for sure.
A life lived in sunshine is always better than a life lived in shadow. “Where ignorance is bliss ’tis folly to be wise” is not always the best policy, but sometimes it surely is.
Letting Epstein off for the sake of protecting evil was never a good policy whether in life or death.
From the start, Bondi could have said flatly that the evidence, if any ever existed, was missing. Instead, this was dragged out, giving an opening to various leeches on society to pull us into thir bizarro world,
Agree. Bondi’s behavior fueled and stoked this nonsense, but what recourse would there be? Go out and say as much? I don’t think so. Trump came out today with strong words for people latching onto this story (with what I view as manufacturered concern) and putting things into perspective, going so far as to reject support from those who continue to promulgate it. Indeed.
No. It was worse. She said it was on her desk. She was either misinformed or she lied. Both are unacceptable. If she was misinformed, she should have come out with that and explained why she was misinformed and fired the person who misinformed her. If she lied, she should be fired.
I agree. Bondi seemed good at first but she’s turned out to be a real disappointment. Has she actually prosecuted ANYBODY?
Problem is, Pam has no huevos. In Texas they would say she’s all hat and no cattle; all bark and no bite. I’m beginning to wonder if she’s Jeff Sessions in a skirt. It’s certainly starting to appear that way.
Bounce Pam Bondi and promote Kash Patel to USAG!!
I don’t know verbatim what Bondi said. Did she say the “file” was on her desk, or did she say the “list” was on her desk? Words matter. If she misspoke, she should have made amends from the get go. She didn’t unfortunately and the Democrats are now spinning straw into gold with no signs of stopping just because.
I can’t believe two absolutely unthinking idiots downvoted you.
I think Jeff and I comment regularly enough that many people simply dislike us and therefore give an emotional downvote no matter what we say.
And I actually find that behavior interesting, too. It is completely foreign to me. I have very very thick skin, despite being extremely sensitive. Opinions without or against evidence can be motivated by nothing else other than unthinking emotion, therefore I give it no further thought or weight.
One exception: I once commented that I did not want my sons to die for Israel. I got a few downvotes on that. I found that disturbing, but it did not hurt my feelings. Criticizing Israel is forbidden as part of the liberal post-war consensus and I do not think any person or nation should be beyond criticism.
Don’t feel bad. I don’t want my son to die for anything. I’d trade my life for his in a heartbeat if it would keep him alive. Any father would, I figure. Except for a Moslem.
Thanks for weighing in on this, Daniel.
A issue like this is when lots of people jump to conclusions. Seems like half the MAGA army is suddenly anti-Trump. They don’t understand that everything the left wants is wrong..
“half the MAGA army is suddenly anti-Trump” – are you a pollster? Do I trust polls anyway?
People who comment during happy hour is sign of the bourgeoisie vox populi?
Your getting carried away with yourself. I wrote “seems like”. And it does.
“Do I trust polls anyway?” Who cares.
Happy Hour? Have another drink.
It’s fair to say that that half of the MAGA army are stuck on stupid. Epstein’s alleged dirty deeds occurred in the early 2000s. Epstein himself was dealt a measure of cosmic justice 6 years ago (he died in a jail cell.)
The Epstein voyeurs need to get their minds out of the gutter and get over it already. The man is dead! Move on!
Sorry, I am naive. Will anyone explain why the influential, the wealthy, public figures, politicians, judges, and other luminaries commit crimes (against minors) and think it will not be used as blackmail? Perhaps there’s a defect on the Y chromosome. And on the X too. How stupid can they get?
Lucky for them, someone in government has pressed “delete.”
That’s not fair, of course, to the victims and to the rest of us.
But it saved us some really ugly views.
And his connections to influential people in our government should be exposed – however few or many and without regard to position. Epstein was a pedophile – a proclivity that cannot be cured. Victor Davis Hanson opined that Epstein’s talent lay primarily in blackmail. That is an excellent extrapolation from the information in Epstein’s Wikipedia entry and would protect his pedophilia by ensuring those complicit or implicated by association would suffer if Epstein were exposed.
I also wonder if there was any truth to Epstein’s own assertions that he had intelligence connections – maybe with foreign governments. He certainly led a life that would make for excellent spook work.
I am not ready to be told enough already. Full sunlight.
Australian intelligence was warning Australian Govt staff and military going to diplomatic, trade, and military attache postings in the US about Epstein in the mid ’90s, before he really got going.
And yet he was allowed to carry on carrying on not just up until the pedo conviction in Florida, but for a decade plus after that.
So why?
Epstein was providing a service to the ruling class elites. Who do you think child prostitution and sex trafficking rings cater too? It certainly isn’t the about the average working person.
Partaking in that is a hedonistic perversion/pleasure/pursuit of the rich and powerful. People with power and excessive amounts of money and a lot of idle time.
Not one person has come forward claiming to have been blackmailed by Epstein. If that was happening people would not have continued to associate with him.
Why would anyone come forward claiming to have been blackmailed by Epstein (which would require admitting to having had sex with minors)?
The blackmailers probably told them to not warn people about what happened to them?
And when they are asked about what information the blackmailer is using to blackmail them and why have they been chosen to be blackmailed what do they say?
It is not surprising that blackmailed pedophiles continue to associate with a procurer of new victims in an arrangement that offers protection from prosecution.
See how that works?
Currently Epstein Island is closed, correct? No child or minor is being molested and raped there anymore?
I would like to see the children or minors who were purportedly raped or molested on Epstein Isle to name names if they are adults now – of course their lives might be in peril. From Bill Gates to Bill Clinton – using and discarding young people after their sexual escapades or a new child or minor shows up can be dangerous to victims coming forward. At least one young lady committed suicide over it.
I’d like to own Epstain Island. And I wouldn’t molest any kiddies.
And warned that she was not suicidal in advance, just in case she died and the suicide narrative was used as a cover – something that was easily anticipated.
Any actual logs and list would be quagmire. We surely know there will innocent people on there that accepted an invitation to an exotic island. I know myself I have been invited to a party or 2 in my life by acquaintances that I do not know very well and after awhile observing what is going on I am like “I have to leave, now!”
Yes. That is true. But people who are innocent tend to be exonerated if not sooner, then later. In this case, I think it would be brave to come forward –guilty or not. Which one of us has not made stupid mistakes in our lives?
1, The most suspicious aspect was the ‘suicide’
2. If there was evidence, it has been destroyed. If it pointed at Trump, Biden would have used it politically.
3. I think that there are pages with accusations made against people with no evidence to support it. In other words, investigations reached a dead end.
If unfounded accusations were released, that would occupy the country for months. Remember Cavanaugh?
2. Biden would not use it against Trump because Epstein’s employers would not let him do that and ruin the blackmail operation just to get one man that might already be being blackmailed by said operation.
That was what struck me, reading some letters from German officials written around 1943 or so, about art treasures they had confiscated in France, I think it was. They showed no consciousness that they might lose the war, they seemed completely oblivious to the possibility. To speculate, it might be due to the controlled press.
(My neighbor was a US Army intelligence officer in charge of recovering stolen art treasures after the war, I got to read some of the letters he had kept.)
Did you see that movie “The Monuments Men?” It’s about the Nazi theft of art in WWII. It has an all star cast and is excellent. If you haven’t seen it, you should watch it.
And the good guys won in the end.
And maybe one of the actors was based on your friend?
Thank you for writing this. I’ve been telling everyone but they are like hysterical schoolgirls, unable to think rationally. Is Bongino going to go with a SWAT team and break down the doors of Buckingham Palace and start dragging royals out? Bill Gates net worth is several times the size of the entire DOJ budget. Having your name on a list is not a crime. The victims already got a huge payout. Does anyone really think there is HD video of any of these guys, clearly identifiable, with a clearly underage girl? Would Tucker’s claim that Epstein was a Mossad agent stand up to cross examination? Look at what the Mossad just did to Hezbollah and the IRG, do you think they don’t know how to cover their tracks? Is the head of the Mossad just going to come to America and truthfully spill his guts about everything they do give me a break. Epstein is about number 843 of the list of things I’m concerned about.
Government covering up for powerful, prominent people is nothing new. In J. Edgar Hoover : The Man and the Secrets, by Curt Gentry,vNew York : Norton, 1991, page 374, Gentry describes how Hoover kept administrative and investigative files. The administrative files were not vulnerable to court ordered discovery motions, cogressional subpeonas, or orders from the justice department. If a prominent public figure’s name turned up in a prostitute’s appointment book, assuming she was dumb enough to put down his real name, that information went into the administrative file
Miranda Rose Smith:
In Washington DC there’s a name for the scenario you just gave: it’s called “business as usual.” It’s no more complicated than that. It’s the way Washington DC works and it’s been that way since long before any of us were born.
It’s the nature of government and it’s not unique to this country.
Dear Rob: I never thought I would feel sorry for G. Gordon Liddy. I regarded “Liddy once worked for the FBI” as a totally trivial bit of Watergate trivia. Then, last year, I did some research on the FBI, for a short story I was writing. I found out how Hoover operated. I think Liddy was surprised when he wad prosecuted for the burglary: “They sometimes enforce the laws against burglary and wiretappimg?” He felt the way I, an academuc librarian, would feel if I were arrested for Xeroxing from a book. That’s also illegal, but virtually every library has Xerox machines
Excellent article. Thank you for covering this side of the story.
The problem is Bondi already said the client list was on her desk. We know Trump is a fighter and he hates idiots and loves geniuses. He had a show with a catchphrase “You’re fired!”. Bondi’s statement was either a lie or an act of incompetence. If it was incompetence or lying, Trump would have fired her but instead he praised her.
Trump says the files were forged or altered by previous admins. If his administration does not investigate this fraud, we know he was lying about that.
Epstein had 1000+ victims and I don’t see how you can get away with that unless the government is helping you. Trump looks like he is protecting the blackmail operation.
Could it be that Bongino story of him not showing up for work is a bait and hook? Never trust what the press put out?
Are you suggesting obfuscation? I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. There can be no doubt that money and power is in play in this matter. Some very rich and powerful people are caught up in all this and they are to be protected at al costs no matter who has to get thrown under the bus.
