There is absolutely nothing to see here in this incident around New York City’s Times Square. Not a thing.
Police were called to the scene near 42nd and 10th Avenue just after 7 p.m.
The 31-year-old driver was operating a 2013 Chevrolet express van that had a food cart attached which became loose and struck a parked 2021 Kia Serrano with a 48-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy.
Police say the driver, Sayed Khaled Elsayed Abdelmohsen, fled the scene, but the 48-year-old woman followed him in her vehicle.
First responders noticed a strong smell of gasoline coming from the van and requested FDNY assistance.
At first, the driver of the van tried to get rid of his keys and said he couldn’t open the vehicle, but firefighters forced entry.
They say what they found could have turned catastrophic with a little heat or a single leak or spark.
Absolutely nothing to see here except a possible future mayoral candidate. It’s not as if there’s a pattern of similar behavior. Like in Times Square.
On May 1, 2010, multiple citizens reported seeing smoke coming from an SUV parked near 45th Street and Seventh Avenue in New York City. First responders searched the vehicle and found the two alarm clocks, as well as firecrackers, gas cans, propane tanks, a pressure cooker, and fertilizer.
FBI agents joined law enforcement partners at the scene and then worked with the New York Police Department (NYPD) to trace the SUV to Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan. Shahzad had purchased the SUV a few weeks earlier.

Those tanks are probably a weeks worth of propane.
Food carts need propane to cook the food, and let’s face it, There isn’t a Home Depot or Lowes within an easy distance of Time Square. He probably gets all the propane for a week and then stores it in the van. when a tank empties, he changes it out for a new one.
Improper storage, yes, But for cooking food, it’s fine.
Way more than a weeks worth. And what was all the gasoline for? There are multiple sources of propane for food carts in Manhattan. Have you ever been to NY?
There is a Home Depot on a 23 street and in the 60s in Manhattan. Then there are several in Brooklyn and queens. No need to carry a week’s supply. There are probably other sources than Home Depot
