[Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”]
Fox contributor Juan Williams recently praised former President Barack Obama for getting involved in the New York City mayoral race, where the self-described “democratic socialist” Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary. Williams wrote: “Yes, Obama has earned his retirement after eight years of honorable service as president. But America is not done with him yet. President Obama, your country needs you to mentor the next generation of leaders — starting with New York’s next mayor, Zohran Mamdani.”
So, Obama comes out of “retirement” to embrace a blatant anti-Semite who, among many other brain-dead proposals, wants to “freeze” the rent of many New Yorkers, despite the abject failure of rent control throughout history.
Also, Obama, along with his former Attorney General Eric Holder, recently released a political ad. The two whipped out the race card to denounce Republican redistricting plans for, as they put it, “diluting the voting power of communities of color.”
The subjects Obama chooses to weigh versus those he gives the silent treatment are interesting.
Take his silence on reparations. Obama long opposed them. But as recently as 2021, Obama described his opposition was strategic, rather than of substance. He said: “And what I saw during my presidency was the politics of White resistance and resentment. The talk of ‘welfare queens’ and the talk of the ‘undeserving’ poor. And the backlash against affirmative action. All that made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent, meaningful reparations program struck me as, politically, not only a nonstarter but potentially counterproductive.”
Obama added: “(It is) perfectly understandable why working-class White folks, middle-class White folks, folks who are having trouble paying the bills or dealing with student loans, wouldn’t be too thrilled (about) a massive program that is designed to deal with the past but isn’t speaking to their future.”
Here’s the problem for Obama: Reparations are popular among blacks, but not with any other group. A 2023 YouGov poll found nearly 70% of blacks support “cash payments” for reparations. But a 2025 YouGov poll found only 38% of adult citizens support reparations. Worse, some polling suggests support has declined in recent years. This explains why Obama is mum on the issue. If he opposes them, he loses popularity among blacks. If he supports them, he loses popularity among every other group.
Williams describes Obama as “the most popular national Democrat, with 61 percent of Americans viewing him favorably …” The question is this: In 2008, when millions of non-blacks voted for the first black president, did they believe they elected a future reparations pusher?
Slavery was legal. The government did not own slaves. Individuals did — and nearly all were Democrats. Democrats were the party of slavery, the Confederacy, Jim Crow, the KKK, the Southern Manifesto and Dred Scott. They opposed the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments and, as a percentage in the House and Senate, voted less for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than did Republicans. Maybe only Democrats should pay reparations.
More recently, Democrats are the party of the welfare state that caused the epidemic of fatherlessness and the party that opposes school choice, preventing urban kids from getting a decent education.
Reparations are the extraction of money from people who were never slave owners to be given to people who were never slaves. If my great-great-grandfather robbed a bank, am I morally and/or legally obligated to pay the money back?
When I tweeted about this, one commenter replied: “No, we’re not responsible for our ancestors’ actions, but we can acknowledge history and work towards a more just future together.”
Elder: “Agreed, but slavery does not make blacks perpetual victims for whom the age old tried and true formula of hard work, sacrifice and deferred gratification does not apply.
“Second, my hope is that at some point you useful idiots will begin to appreciate the difference between the arsonist and the firefighter.”
Another commented: “What about reparations for the descendants of the 675,000 white Northerners and more than 30,000 Black Northerners who died freeing the slaves? What reparations for me as a descendant of people who ran Underground Railroad safe-houses fighting off Bounty Hunters and Federal Marshals to get ‘fugitive’ slaves across the border.”
Good question. When will a reporter ask Mr. Obama?

Reparations:
People who were not slave owners being forced pay money to people who were not slaves.
What could possibly go wrong?
That would be socialized mugging instead of individual mugging.
I have two direct Civil War ancestors. One perished in the horrors of Andersonville.
His brother returned to Wisconsin profoundly disabled by Civil War injuries.
That is 1/4 of my family tree. The remainder, around 1900, emigrated to become loggers in northern Wisconsin.
WHAT do I owe blacks? Do they owe me?
Black fatigue. I am overwhelmed by it.
Obama and Mamdani stranded on a Island would be perfectly okay as far as i am concerned their the perfect match Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Stupid
I always felt that Obama was a fraud and liar about every aspect of himself. So I am not surprised that he jumped on the MamitheDami bandwagon. Why? Because ‘O’ has always hated Jews, Himself and America, and loved the Muslims.
Obama was never the best and the brightest. He is simply a dumbass ordinary leftist with the ‘grift’ of gab. He has been fooling the American Left and idiots like Juan Williams since the early 2000s.
Hopefully MamitheDami fails spectacularly and causes folks to relocate, or lose their savings or move their savings out of NYC before its too late.
In the words from the Amityville Horror, “get out….get out!!!
I despised many of Obama’s policies and his playing the race card. But to assert someone who won the Presidency twice is a “dumbass ordinary leftist” requires recalibrating the Dumbassometer. Of the approximately 600,000,000 Americans, whi have lived, we’ve had less than 50 people be POTUS. “One in a million” doesn’t come close to describing how rare it is for someone to become POTUS.
As for that alleged “idiot” Juan Williams, here is a review of his excellent book, “Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements, and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America–and What We Can Do About It”
“Half a century after brave Americans took to the streets to raise the bar of opportunity for all races, Juan Williams writes that too many black Americans are in crisis—caught in a twisted hip-hop culture, dropping out of school, ending up in jail, having babies when they are not ready to be parents, and falling to the bottom in twenty-first-century global economic competition.
Williams makes the case that while there is still racism, it is way past time for black Americans to open their eyes to the “culture of failure” that exists within their community. He raises the banner of proud black traditional values—self-help, strong families, and belief in God—that sustained black people through generations of oppression and flowered in the exhilarating promise of the modern civil rights movement. Williams asks what happened to keeping our eyes on the prize by proving the case for equality with black excellence and achievement.”
Obama is the personification of the guy who fooled most journalists and 50% of the gullible population into shilling and voting for him. Proves nothing. After all Biden won and he didn’t know what planet he was on.
I don’t care all that much for self important liberal blacks especially Juan Williams. You obviously want to hold people like Williams and Obama as some kind of special folks who are above reproach. So you write a long bloviating post that basically says nothing other than I am a brain dead lib.
And I’m certainly not going to read Juan’s tired drivel, especially if black people in general won’t.
So Al, sell your liberal garbage to the ghetto guys, not me. I stopped caring decades ago.
So, Obama comes out of “retirement” to embrace Zohran Mamdani. No surprise there, they’re both Muslims, liberal communists, so of course the Obummer would support him.
At the risk of making some mad here but I will ask it again:
What is the difference between going on and on about slavery and going on and on about the Holocaust?
For most there is none.
I wish the Jews would set the excellent example and show that keeping the past where it belongs is the best for both horrible situations.
Slavery continues to this day though no one wants to speak honestly about that. Of course, there is always the possibility of a horror like the Holocaust occurring again with the irony it would most likely be led by apostate jews in the guise of their new Messiah, Karl Marx. Lower case since they do not deserve any honor.
They both are excuses to avoid dealing with actual problems of the moment and are basically cowardly.
Obama single=handedly brought racism back to America. Because of the continuation of this racism, Biden and Harris were excellent at keeping it going with their accusations of “white supremacy”, their allowing criminal illegals from ANY country, for any made up reason, It was the ONLY thing they succeeded at…..and the killing of innocent humans in the womb.
It’s funny on reparations with regard to Lord Barackkk (pbuh). His family was on the other side of the slave equation. Back in the day, his great great great great grandpappy was known for rounding up other blacks to sell to the Europeans. He once had Michelle’s (Big Mike’s) great great great great grandmammy as a “belly warmer”. He sent her off to the new world with a bun in oven that eventually led to Big Mike. So Lord Barackkk (pbuh) and his hubby Mike are cousins. Kissin’ cousins.
