Democrats Are The Only Thing Standing In The Way of Legalizing Abortion

Do Democrats actually want to legalize abortion? Not during the midterms and probably not until 2024.

Senator Elizabeth Warren told NBC News Tuesday night that she will not vote for a newly-introduced bipartisan bill that would enshrine federal abortion protections after the Supreme Court's recent ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, a tough blow to the nascent effort that shows it would lack the crucial support of all 50 Democratic senators.

“The Kaine-Collins bill does not codify Roe,” she said plainly, saying “no” she wouldn’t vote for it. Pressed on if this was a question of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good on this, she said “the problem here is this bill is not an obvious improvement over where we stand right now.”

Where we stand right now is abortion being the only thing that Democrats can run on. That and the sacred importance of men showering with women.

This isn't the first time that Democrats like Warren sabotaged efforts by liberal Republicans to codify Roe v. Wade. And they're doing it for the same old reasons. If Republicans didn't really want to overturn Roe w. Wade, Democrats didn't really want to keep it. What they wanted was to maintain abortion in a state of precariousness so that they could use it to fund raise, organize and have it be their last remaining calling card to women.

The current ridiculous situation is that Democrats could get an abortion law passed with their current numbers, but they insist on refusing to do it. Not unless it covers abortion until the moment of birth and maybe a few days afterward too.

The point here is to make it enough of a dealbreaker that even Murkowski and Collins won't go for it.

The Democrats assume that their voters are too stupid to realize what they're doing. And they're probably right.
