Gun Control Senator Who Wanted to Ban Assault Rifles, Took Part in Shoulder Fired Missiles Deal

The agent told Senator Yee he wanted any type of shoulder-fired weapons or missiles

No, it isn't Barbara Boxer. We're talking California State Senate here.

An FBI affidavit alleging that state Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) offered to set up an arms deal paints a starkly different picture of Yee than his public persona as a supporter of gun control and advocate against gun violence.

In 2006, Yee was named to the Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll by the Brady Campaign for his efforts that included co-authoring a first-in-the-nation bill to require new semiautomatic handguns to be equipped with ballistics identification technology known as micro-stamping.

“While we cannot stop every senseless act of gun violence, the significant rise of mass shootings across the country demonstrates that we must take steps to close the loopholes that currently exist in California,” Yee said.

Yee also authored SB 108, which would require all guns to be properly stored when not in the owner's possession.

In reality though Yee believed in the right to own shoulder fired missiles.

“Yee explained he has known the arms dealer for a number of years and has developed a close relationship with him.” The undercover agent told Yee he wanted automatic weapons and shoulder-fired missiles and offered to pay Yee $100,000 after the first deal.

While Yee was cool with the whole shoulder fired missiles thing, he was concerned about 3D printer guns.

Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) is looking at how to regulate working guns made by 3-D printers.

He was fine with the other kind though.

"According to Senator Yee, the arms dealer is 'low-key' and has been trafficking weapons for quite a while," the document says. "According to Senator Yee, the arms dealer sourced the weapons from Russia."

"Senator Yee said of the arms dealer, 'He's going to rely on me, because ultimately it's going to be me,'" the affidavit says. "Senator Yee said, 'I know what he could do. I have seen what he has done in the past on other products and this guy has the relationships.' Senator Yee emphasized that the arms dealer took baby steps and was very careful."

The agent told Yee and Jackson he wanted any type of shoulder-fired weapons or missiles, the affidavit says; Yee asked whether he wanted automatic weapons, and the agent confirmed he did -- about $500,000 to $2.5 million worth. Yee told the agent "he saw their relationship as tremendously beneficial."

The agent said his family in New Jersey wanted to support Yee's bid for Secretary of State, to which Yee responded, "I can be of help to you for 10 months or I can be of help to you for eight years. I think eight years is a lot better than 10 months."

This isn't the first time that Leland Yee got in trouble with the law. There was a shoplifting incident and a little non-profit fraud, but he did win the hearts of liberals when he set up a minor theatrical production surrounding Sarah Palin's speaking fee.

Yee claimed that he stood for transparency and good governments. Investigators say it's more like corruption.

State Sen. Leland Yee has been charged with public corruption as part of a major FBI operation spanning the Bay Area, law-enforcement sources said, casting yet another cloud of corruption over the Democratic establishment in the Legislature and torpedoing Yee's aspirations for statewide office.

Yee, D-San Francisco, highlights a series of arrests Wednesday morning that included infamous Chinatown gangster Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow, whose past includes a variety of charges including racketeering and drug crimes, sources said. Yee's exact connection to Chow, if any, was not immediately drawn.

The criminal complaint against Yee likely ruins his candidacy for Secretary of State, and threatens Democrats' restoration of their state Senate supermajority that already has been broken by two other lawmakers' paid leaves of absence to deal with criminal charges.

You would almost conclude that there is something innately corrupt about the Democratic Party.

Yee stood for gun control, attacked Rush Limbaugh and Palin and engaged in corruption making him the perfect Democrat.
