Whitmer defeated 33-year-old former Detroit Public Health Director Abdul El-Sayed and businessman Shri Thanedar, two candidates that sought to claim the mantle of true progressive.
Linda Sarsour had aggressively campaigned for Abdul El-Sayed. It didn't help.
