The Breivik Case and the Media's Misreading of Trolling Manifestos

The media never bothers to correct 'errors' that tilt in its ideological favor.

One legacy of the Breivik case was the way that his massive manifesto, much of which was cut and pasted from other sources, was used to libel people like Robert Spencer. In reality, Breivik would later declare that he was a Neo-Nazi and had deliberately put in the names of people whom he disliked in order to cause them reputational harm. Not only wasn't he anti-Muslim, but he had pondered, in the manifesto, allying with Muslim terrorists to carry out a WMD attack.

The media has rarely discussed these publicly available facts, but repeatedly revived the smear.

In the latest case, the media is once again exploiting a manifesto that it is well aware is a deliberate troll, in order to damage the reputations of people like Candace Owens. The media is doing this even while admitting that the manifesto is trolling.

But he media never bothers to correct 'errors' that tilt in its ideological favor.
