Rep. Ilhan Omar has had some pretty tall tales and inexplicable scandals, including the whole thing about marrying her brother, but this has to be the worst excuse for anything ever.
I don’t see how even someone trying to give Omar every possible benefit of the doubt can swallow this.
An Omar disclosure filed last year showed she and her husband held assets of between $6 million and $30 million, a massive rise in wealth from her previous annual filing. That jump triggered questions among Republicans eager to scrutinize a critic of the president.
An amended filing viewed by The Wall Street Journal shows the couple’s assets to be just $18,004 to $95,000. The forms don’t require exact values, only broad ranges.
Those businesses had previously been listed as worth between $6 million and $30 million. In the amended filing, they are shown as having no value once liabilities are factored in
Aides said that Omar looked at the form before it was filed in 2025, but that the error didn’t jump off the page for her because she isn’t involved with her husband’s businesses and she trusted the accuracy of the accountant who provided her husband’s figures.
I’m sorry, Omar’s excuse is that…
1. The difference between $30 million and $95,000 was an accounting error
2. Omar is so unfamiliar with her husband’s businesses that she didn’t realize they’re not millionaires.
Why not just go with “The Dog Ate My Disclosure”?
A Washington lawyer representing Omar responded in a letter to the OCC that the inaccurate filing was unintentional.“As the busiest of people, it is very common for members and their spouses to rely on learned professionals like accountants to make calculations and determinations that appear on public filings,” the letter said.
Congresspersons may be so very busy holding hearings into things and constantly tweeting while also trading stocks that they don’t pay very close attention to their disclosures… except when the disclosure claims that their net worth is in the tens of millions… and they’re just too busy to notice.
This is a ridiculous excuse and only a media determined to cover up for Omar would take it seriously.
My brother in law has been a CPA for over 60 years. When he saw this on the news he laughed and said Omar’s accountant should sue for defamation.

Math isn’t their strong point.
She’s probably going to blame this one on the US’s use of imperial units of measurement. As such, her reply might be, “We prefer to use the international metric system of fraud, err, measurement.”

They need to name this faceless accountant who made this error, because if he didn’t account for the businesses liabilities, he needs to be permanently out of a job for malpractice.
The accountant was probably an “unlicensed CPA” named “Ohan Ilmar.”

Let’s face it, Muslim arithmetic is different from Jewish, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist arithmetic.
Ilhan reminds one of the recent sewage scandal in DC where the employees didn’t know the difference between 2,400 and 2,400,000 when recording the bacterial count. The only plausible answer for Ilhan’s “error” is that her accountant– if she indeed has one — is a Somali.

Time for the establishing of a required Congressional SAT test before being able to file paperwork to run for office, NO DEI scaling allowed!

2) Imagine your assets grow from 10s of thousands to millions in a year. Would the number stand out to you?
3) If she is so careless with money, should she be in a group that deals with multi-trillion dollar budgets? Why is being bad with money considered a desirable trait for members of congress?

The accountants can only work with the information you provide to them.
No one lies as easily as a democrat….and no democrat lies as easily as one who was allowed to come here and make a life……They are liars, cheats and thieves….
