Hillary Clinton’s appearance to answer questions about Jeffrey Epstein went about as expected. A veteran of numerous scandals going back to her ‘cattle futures’ operations going on 50 years ago, the one thing she has learned to do is to be lawyerly, deny she knew anything, give generic answers and blame her questioners.
(If only she had a knack for doing that on the campaign trial and in interviews where she would tell crazy lies, like claiming she had tried to join the Marines, that she had landed in Yugoslavia under fire and that her daughter had been jogging around the World Trade Center on 9/11. One reason Biden’s decline was less obvious in the party is that the Clintons had normalized telling crazy lies without any obvious medical grounds.)
According to Hillary, she had never met Epstein and that Ghislaine Maxwell was only a casual “acquittance”.
Notably, people to whom Epstein and Maxwell were casual acquaintances are being forced to resign from prominent academic roles, but as usual the standard is different for the Clintons.
More tellingly, she insisted at least a dozen times, according to Rep. James Comer, that it was all Bill.
“The number of times that she said, ‘I don’t know, you’ll have to ask my husband,’ was more than a dozen,” he said.
Tellingly that was also the strategy in the media groundwork ahead of the deposition.

More than 34 years later, Mrs. Clinton will be back on the proverbial couch on Thursday because of her husband, forced to field in-depth, potentially uncomfortable questions that ultimately require her, once again, to answer for her spouse’s actions and relationships.
Anyone who knows the Clintons and their relationship with prestige media will be skeptical that this wasn’t a planted narrative.
You can view it as Hillary hanging out Bill, who’s far less capable and alert, out to dry. Instead of ‘stand by your man’, it’s now ‘sell out your man.’
But it’s also a tactical distraction. On a few recent interviews about this case, I pointed out that the Clintons would much rather we focus on Bill’s ties to Epstein as a known horndog rather than the role of the Clinton Global Initiative.
Yes, Epstein went down for his treatment of underage girls, but everyone focusing on that disgusting aspect of his crimes is missing the fact that the value he really offered to wealthy and powerful men (who could buy their own prostitutes) lay in his expertise in moving money around and a network of contacts with potential investors.
The Clinton ties to Epstein were primarily financial. He helped them set up the Clinton Global Initiative which moved money back and forth between the Clintons and foreign interests.
Hillary (and even Bill) would much rather the conversation was about Epstein Island and photos like this one, which she can just dismiss as having nothing to do with her, than about where the foreign money went.

There was a tv spot actually shot in Haiti at the village that allegedly was rebuilt by the money. It was of course still a mess a year later. Media in the 1980s published photos of the aftermath of such an execution in Haiti and, like similar photos at the time of Winnie Mandela’s burned alive “necklacing” victims, such images were banned as too horrific, but moreso because they made blacks look like savages (Desmond Tutu famously said at the time, stop the necklacing, the world is watching and people won’t support us because you’re making us look like animals). When I saw those photos from Haiti and South Africa taken on crowded city streets where the executions publically happened, I had what Susan Sontag called the prototypically modern relevation: a Negative Epiphany — other than Holocaust photos (and other historical atrocity images), I never knew that humans living at the same moment as me could be that inhuman until I saw those photos (I was so naive back then).
