Two mayoral elections in major cities with two candidates.
Both Omar Fateh and Zohran Mamdani followed the familiar AOC playbook of seizing their party’s nomination in low turnout primaries or in Fateh’s case, DFL conventions, against an established candidate.
Both were Islamists running on ‘free stuff’ and socialism.
Mamdani beat Cuomo in New York City while in Minneapolis, Jacob Frey appears to have defeated Fateh (with not enough of a margin, leading to the election-rigging plague that is ‘ranked choice voting’ which Mamdani also benefited from.)
The difference didn’t come down to policies, it came down to social media hype.
Mamdani kept that fake smile up the entire time and painstakingly followed the ‘people’s struggle’ handbook of pretending he was representing some electorate other than fellow Muslims and leftists. Omar Fateh tried the same routine, but it doesn’t help that he looks like a fairy tale goblin.
Smilingly only gets you so far when you look like you’re about to demand that a fairy tale queen guess your name or you’ll make off with her daughter.
But Mamdani mostly benefited from massive amounts of astroturfed social media hype. And, I hate to say this, but the Republican focus on Mamdani probably only backfired.
We’ve seen the waves of fake hype for Obama before, not to mention other radical candidates like Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul, in which a small social media campaign by radicals pumps up a candidate that otherwise no one would care about. It only works when the candidate, like Obama, has enough charisma to front it. No amount of hype could make anyone make Bernie Sanders or Ron Paul president. And the hype wasn’t enough for the Minneapolis goblin.
Had Frey been successfully ousted, who knows, but there’s a reason that Rep. Ilhan Omar is the nation’s highest ranking Somali and not this guy.
Socialism is only a part of it. The radical candidates don’t really run on socialism. They run on hype aimed at low-information voters. Especially young ones. That worked for Mamdani, but you have to have the media training, the looks, the polish and the personality to make it happen.
Those can be manufactured.
Consider the difference between the pre-politics and post-politics Mamdani.
Would this guy, who looks like the neighborhood sex-offender, have won? Less likely.
And compare 2000 era Obama with the guy who eventually took over the party.
There’s lessons here about politics and presentation.
Consider Nixon and JFK and consider the candidates that Republicans pinned their hopes on in Virginia and New Jersey.
Mamdani didn’t win a policy debate. He won a personality contest.
Comrade Zohran has a nice smile and an appealing demeanor, not stern and serous like Vladimir Lenin. Think of him as a warm , fuzzy and cuddly commie.
Zohran had the sick,smile and sickly sweet way of speaking common to psychopaths; and muslims engaging in tacquiia (sp) with infidels.
Well, he may have had those things until he won but, at his victory celebration, the mask came off. Quelle suprise!

Looks certainly helped Bill Clinton. I had a female friend who said she was voting for Bill because she thought he was cute.

Every time I see a pic of that horrifying face I think of the line from LOTR where a wizard entices the monster he created by telling it, “You will taste man flesh!” That thing in the photo looks like it already has — and often. Egads!
I’m waiting to see what Mamdani’s voters do when all his promises fall flat. I’m sure the Z will come up with tons of excuses, but his voters will be crying, especially when a 2 min. bus ride costs $9.
I’m sure this has a relation with Transgenderism but I just don’t want to bother teasing it out.

Concerns about high food prices, health care costs, home prices and wages were absolutely on the minds of many “low information” voters. Those concerns exist regardless of the looks of any candidate.
President Trump and the GOP had better hope the economy improves before the midterms. It was a Democrat Bill Clinton, a relative unknown from the relatively unimportant state of Arkansas, who successfully defeated an incumbent Republican POTUS with the theme of “it’s the economy, stupid.” Candidate Clinton got lucky as the economy entered what turned out to be a mild downturn.
The GOP regained control of the House with its “Contract with America.” That contract included a provision for a balanced budget. Anyone who contends that the GOP and President Trump are serious about fiscal responsibility needs to put down the crack pipe.
It IS the economy, stupid.

The next election is probably lost already, thanks to the rich oligarchs siding with oil rich sheikhs and terrorists against Israel and ignoring the concerns of the poor American citizen voters.
Why didn’t the opposition just circulate that photo of Mamdani everywhere, with the caption, “Do You Want This Guy To Be In Charge Of NYC Schools?” or something more pithy.

This may be true the first time Obama and AOC got elected but by the second term Obama’s and AOC’s mask had come off and everyone knew what they were really about.
And yet Obama won his second term and AOC despite being glaringly STUPID, IGNORANT, and DESTRUCTIVE of her constituents needs (she destroyed 25,000 jobs Amazon jobs) keeps getting re-elected!
Something is dangerously wrong for the future of this country when someone so stupid, ignorant, and destructive as AOC keeps getting re-elected.

It’s not voter fraud. I know it’s not a scientific sampling but, if you read comment on, say, YouTube, regarding political subjects what you will see, typically from Leftists, are completely fact free, reason free, logic free, knowledge free comments usually consisting only of a stupid slogan or an ad hominem attack. The most coherent will read something like “Our dictator is building a ballroom for his rich friends while children are starving.”. He isn’t a dictator. He isn’t using public funds. It is principally for things like state dinners and will serve his successors. Children aren’t starving. The government shutdown and lack of funding is solely the Democrats’ fault (unless you consider it Trump’s fault because he won’t give into the Dems’ extortionate demands for $1.5 TRILLION(!) in additional government spending where we are already in debt to the tune of $38 TRILLION(!). And that type of comment is still usually about the most coherent you’ll find. Simply, our educational and media institutions have rendered most people sloganeering automatons, with no knowledge, no logic, and no ability to find or process information.
