[Order Michael Finch’s new book, A Time to Stand: HERE. Prof. Jason Hill calls it “an aesthetic and political tour de force.”]
As is now well known, the name of the man who murdered two people at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, England on Yom Kippur was Jihad al-Shamie, or “Syrian Jihad.” He is indeed Syrian, although the establishment media insists on referring to him as “British” because he obtained British citizenship, although it is quite clear at this point that he did so without adopting anything in the way of a British outlook, or shedding any of the mental baggage he brought with him from his home country.
Jihad al-Shamie was granted British citizenship back in 2006, when he was sixteen years old. While records of such matters are not kept, one thing that is absolutely certain about the process he underwent in order to secure that citizenship is that no one, at any step along the way, dared to wonder if maybe those old colonial occupiers, the Romans, had a point when they coined the adage nomen est omen: a name is a sign.
By 2006, British officials already knew better than to raise concerns about something as trivial as a boy’s name. Anyone who might have raised such concerns would likely have been shut down with calm, knowing assurances that jihad meant “struggle,” and so there was nothing to be concerned about. And jihad does indeed mean “struggle.” But the primary jihad in Islamic theology is the struggle against unbelievers with the goal of imposing Sharia upon them.
Yet it is forbidden to mention that fact in Keir Starmer’s Britain, and the stigmatization, demonization, and silencing of those who did dare to point out Islam’s sanctification of violence didn’t start with Starmer. If anyone had raised concerns about Jihad al-Shamie’s name, he would not only have gotten the explanation that jihad means “struggle,” and hence is nothing infidels need be concerned about; he would also almost certainly have been accused of “Islamophobia” and of “racism” as well, and faced the very real prospect of both personal and professional ruin.
The British government and media establishment has worked for years to ensure that no one would dare to raise concerns about a man named Jihad, or about the preaching of jihad in the country’s many mosques. Even now, Starmer rails incessantly against the “far right,” but didn’t dare identify the motivating ideology of Jihad al-Shamie. No one was surprised, either, that the cowardly Marxist prime minister gingerly avoided coming close to explaining al-Shamie’s belief system. It is by now taken for granted as an established fact of life, not just in Britain but all over the West, that Islamic jihad is simply not to be discussed. For all intents and purposes, it does not exist.
What does exist, however, is “Islamophobia,” and the fear of being branded an “Islamophobe” has been capably pounded into the population of Britain and into people all over the West. The British government, in other words, brought this problem to Britain. It wasn’t there before the British left embraced socialism, internationalism, and open borders, and began to stigmatize and silence anyone who warned about what was happening as “racist” and “Islamophobic.”
If it is allowed to be discussed at all, the jihad threat can only be discussed in the context of its status as an alleged twisting and hijacking of the peaceful religion of Islam. And why are some Muslims driven to this false, “extremist” understanding of their religion? Because of the evils of the Infidels. Thus more concessions, more appeasement, more accommodation is in order, and will fix everything.
Except they won’t. The Qur’an tells Muslims: “So do not falter and cry out for peace when you have the upper hand, and Allah is with you, and he will not deprive you of your actions.” (47:35) All this appeasement and accommodation tend to make jihadis think, with abundant justification, that they have the upper hand, and so should not meet gestures of good will with reciprocal good will, but should press on to total victory. And that’s what we’re seeing now not just in Manchester on Yom Kippur, but all over the West.
Jihad al-Shamie’s name was indeed an omen. But it was an omen that the entire Western world has been trained to disregard and ignore. And so there will be many more jihads, just like the one al-Shamie carried out in Manchester, and much larger-scale operations as well. The West has sown the wind, and is beginning to reap the whirlwind.

The UK has been conquered. It will take time for the Islamists to consolidate power and eliminate the Labour Marxists from any control. Once they do watch implementation of Islamic/Sharia. The day is coming when all pubs are prohibited along with pork and women are forced to be covered.
Women are covering themselves more and more. Almost all meat is already halal and pubs are closing down daily like never before.
Even men’s fashion is slowly but surely changing, for example trousers are above the ankle.
A new Dark Age of religion is upon us.
“I believe that the medievals understood much better than the moderns on what basis to build a totalitarian society that would last and not collapse in less than a century. They did it and the people in the rising religious movement today know that full well. They’re the ones who have millions, upon millions, upon millions, of followers and a real insight into the fact that economics is not the crucial factor, but philosophy and culture are…. Religion has been the root of [totalitarianism] from the beginning, it has ruled in disguised forms, and still is, and now the disguise had to be stripped off… What socialism is doing is really helping religion, the bigger the statism, the more people grow accustomed to government rule over everything, the more people are ready for religionists to take over the lead from the more secular side… The socialists are building the basis for totalitarianism but only the religionists are going to cash in on it and take over.” – Leonard Peikoff
There is a huge difference between religion and idolatry. Socialism fills the void where, Christianity in particular, is absent. Islam is not a religion, it is an tryannical politic masquerading as a religion – same as socialism which masquerades as benevolence. The Socialist’s idolatry is money and power. Thus Leonard is full of shit.
I noticed you didn’t have the guts to say ‘Islamic Dark” age. You simply lump all religions together. Your attempt at propaganda is pretty weak sauce.
And that makes you a coward and a liar…..no better than a Muslim. Christianity is not producing anything resembling a dark age.
If it were up to you and your dwindling collection of weaklings Objectivism would also produce a Dark Age. But the ugly hag abandoned it when Ole Natty dumped her for good.
But that is because religion is man’s search for God whereas Christianity is God’s search for man everything evil which has been done in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth has been instigated by those who would not know Him were He to tap them on the shoulder. He was persecuted and crucified in order to give mankind the opportunity to be accepted by our Creator and forgiven provided they believed. Those who have done evil in His name have deliberately crucified the One Who died to give them eternal life and their reward will be in hell.
And the sheep natives will politely allow it all to happen. The spirits of their ancestors must be so proud. Why would ANY country give ANY muslim citizenship?
It’s not only the UK that should have known. All of Europe should have.
Shortly after 09/11 I saw a cluster of Arabic speaking men whose “luggage” was a large box leaking some metallic liquid waved through security after a cursory check, while they did everything short of a cavity search on 80 something grandmother who enjoyed “white privilege”. And Orthodox Jew had the contents of his luggage dumped on a table and checked item by item. At another leg of the flight (in Charlotte) I saw Michael Moore’s doppelgänger, who reeked of suet and rarely changed underwear, and who was clad in a keffiyeh, Che Guevara t shirt and a Kim Il Sung button. He too was waved through. I remember think at the time of Bush 43 and his absurd blather about “the religion of peace”, which was later taken up (with even more refusal to confront truth) by politicians such Barack Hussein Osama, Zohran Mamdani and Keir Starmer
Had a similar experience no more than a month after 9/11 and from Logan Airport no less.
Bush43 was soft.
The timid fool kept crybaby Norman Mineta in as Transportation Secretary.
As Mineta was a flaming Clinton holdover, the attack of 9/11 should’ve had him replaced the following day.
Instead, Bush kept him in place where he fully backed islamists suing airlines, a two islamists maximum profiling to avoid “islamophobia”, keeping pilots disarmed, crying constantly of his experience in a Japanese internment camp, and enforcing ridiculously useless procedures.
And of course, Bush43 followed in daddy’s footsteps – he imported MORE religion-of-peace.
He never even considered deporting islamist agitators like the “six flying imams”.
The U.K. deserves to die. You can have a white society or you can have White Guilt. You cannot have both. Europe has chosen White Guilt, so they will lose their white society.
Import barbarians become barbarians. Why act so surprised when barbarians gotta be barbarians and rape, pillage and plunder as the Romans found out the hard way with their replacement population.
Did anyone notice the decades long campaign of rewriting history to make the Crusaders bad, the Muslims purveyors of advanced science, math and medicine, and the Reconquista a horde of uncivilized, superstitious Christians slaughtering innocent Muslims? And the coup de grace the “religion of peace” immediately after the slaughter of thousands of Americans at the hands of jihadis. I have a feeling this was the plan all along.
What would have been Starmer’s position if this British citizen terrorist had been maned Kill the Infidel al-Shamie?
Will the country opine “New Yorkers should have known, but chose not to” after Mamdani is elected?
A thick fog of denial will doom the US, just like it did the UK and the EU.
They could have Closed their Borders but instead choose to play the part of Fool and kept their Borders Open
I remember a good friend and alumnus of Kansas State University talk of a visit to his alma mater. This visit, years ago, was surprising in that the largest new building on campus was a mosque.
