OFCOM, the UK’s Orwellian name for the Office of Communications, has decided to issue a reporting demanding that YouTube prioritize its propaganda content because of ‘democracy’ and ‘public service’ or something of that sort.
Even for the Starmer regime, which is racking up more speech arrest than Cuba, this is really something.
The regime believes that its programming is entitled to first row prioritization and that if people don’t choose to watch it, that’s because YouTube isn’t trying hard enough to make them.
This review calls for urgent action, both now and in the coming years to strengthen and maintain public service media (“PSM”) content which provides trusted and accurate news, tells UK stories and represents the diversity of the nations and regions of the UK.
The one thing the UK has a desperate shortage of is programming about “diversity”.
So if OFCOM proposing to improve the BBC’s viewership by investing in better content that people actually want to watch? Ha. That’s not how socialism works. The BBC will make people watch that Masterpiece Theater production of a classic recast with all minorities. How do you make them watch if they won’t turn on the TV? There’s the option of a mandatory Big Brother always-on TV or just force YouTube to make them watch it. They’re going with both.
The vital reforms in the Media Act, once implemented, will help support PSBs, including by making
their on-demand players prominent on connected TVs.
As people keep saying, “1984 was not supposed to be a How To” guide, but that’s literally how the Starmer regime is treating it.
But what if people don’t choose to click on the spam on smart TVs? What if they go right to social media? Or YouTube.

Competition is very un-socialist so something must be done so everyone just watches the Beeb instead of unboxing videos.

This makes it harder for audiences to find PSB content, which undermines its universality, and may mean they are exposed to fewer genres or viewpoints. This trend is even more stark for children and young people – for example 4-15 year old children spend significantly more time watching YouTube than PSB services combined. If children do not turn to PSB content as they get older, the future of PSM is at risk.”

Work together. Rather than compete, the regime will just pass ‘legislation’ ordering YouTube to promote its propaganda.

George Orwell called it over 75 years ago. These people know one trick and one trick only. Force everyone to watch it. If viewers still don’t click on their propaganda even when YouTube pushes it front and center, they’ll pass legislation ordering that viewers in the UK have to watch a BBC video before watching any other video.

Alphabet/Googe/YouTube finds no problem with acquiescing to Big Brother Starmer’s demands – There would be no Google is there was no USA and our freedoms including free enterprise. I read about all these izzylamic rapes and assaults with impunity and the victims are accused by the prosecution and I wonder about the foresight of our Founding Fathers (and Mothers) to wrest us from such oppressive and controlling regime in England.

The UK has always been a socialist country who notions of freedom are not the same as America’s notions. of freedom. Thus there can be no comparison between America and the UK.
Unlike the US, the UK does not have a codified Constitution. As such there is virtually no checks on the powers of government. And the UK is still a monarchy with a noble class and kneel (ick!) before ) a hereditary ruler.. What’s up with that.?

Nobody wants to watch their programming now. Cutting off an alternative as popular as youtube might make a lot of people who just didn’t care actively dislike PSM, and whoever cut off their youtube for it. Entertainment, diy, business, they’ll PO a wide swathe of people. Youtube has the cards here.
I wonder if they noticed us finally shutting down funding for ours, and are panicking? Whatever the reason, they must feel very secure in their grip on political power.
