It’s cold in New York City now, but I should emphasize, cold by recent city standards, not by comparison to Chicago, Boston, Minneapolis or anyplace where it actually gets cold, so I’m perfectly comfortable walking the streets of Manhattan in a relatively light puffer jacket that would be sudden death in any place truly cold. This isn’t a harsh blizzard where people stumble around and die walking down the streets, but it’s colder than usual (NYC winters have been light in past years) and the expanding population of junkies and mentally ill addicts hanging out on the street are at risk of going to sleep and never waking up again.
The current total is 16 dead.
Zohran Mamdani, who leveraged a predatory saturnine grin and the graphic arts squad to take over the city, has no idea of how to deal with it and is being lambasted by outgoing Mayor Eric Adams (who is running a better campaign out of office than Andrew Cuomo did while running for office) for dropping the policy of pushing homeless vagrants into shelters ahead of cold freezes instead of letting them stay in encampments.
Mamdani is claiming that’s not the issue, but 10 out of 16 of the dead had been in the homeless shelter system. He’s issuing ChatGPT press release about how all the dead were individual precious lives.
Outside the touristy areas in Manhattan, the city is a mess, snow removal and trash pickup are battling it out and it’s details like this that require a mayor who is a hands on manager. Unfortunately the city hasn’t had one of those since the days of Koch and Giuliani. All they’ve got is a third world radical who used his shallow charm to get this far but, like Obama, can’t do any of the nuts and bolts stuff. Still that’s not what he’s here for. People will die, the city will fail, but Mamdani will blame it all on capitalism and Israel.
How does Mamdani’s “warmth of collectivism” look now? Collectivism is so warm that people are freezing to death. All it took was one Communist and New York City is already a gulag.

They probably have enough work crews to fix the problems, it just takes a politician to give them the orders. Typically the leftist politicians can’t even do that.
The work crews here in Texas have taken a decided turn for the worse. The trades once had more widely spread excellence. Now we have Indians driving big rigs, slamming willy nilly up and down the highways of Canada and the U.S. killing innocent people and their families. Bridges collapsing. Planes falling out of the sky, etc.
We have City Works crews here in downtown San Jose who pick up trash, empty trash cans and clean the sidewalks, light rail stations and bus stops, etc. They do a good job although they all look like underpaid illegal aliens. Many are legal, no doubt, and they all seem to complete their job responsibilities.
. Of course,this is CA,, and predatory invaders from all over the Turd World are welcomed by our corrupt and misanthropic government, not just good workers. Hiring Turd worlders in the “tech” industries is is a big racket here in Santa Clara Valley and has been for over thirty five years. Hopefully so called AI programs can push out as many foreign born computer programmers and Google scum as possible.

And. there was a split alternative with Sliwa refusing to drop out and Cuomo, a possible choice but a defective candidate after killing grandmas and grandpas. In no way, did the good people of NYC, the working people, those born and raised there, people of all ethnicities and backgrounds, endorse Mamdani. I live in CA, where it’s institutionalized by the State legislature, just like it is in cities like New Dork City, Philadelphia and Atlanta, to list the top three worst. NYC is no longer an American city and that’s a fact. I feel empathy for anybody stuck there due to their jobs or whatever but anybody who can move to a place like FL or TX, should, or they deserve to suffer. Wall the place off like in “Escape From New York.”

The temperature will increase commensurate with tax hikes, just as tax hikes will lower the temperature when it is too hot. Come to think of it, raising taxes will fix any problem. Censorship will also fix a lot of problems.
Why should government herd the “homeless “ into shelters? Allowing them to freeze in their cardboard shelters is just letting people suffer the consequences of their (bad) decisions. “Saving them “ from such consequences has brought us to our current sorry state. Private charities may attempt to deal with these unfortunates; the state should not be taxing me to do so.
Give him credit where credit is due! He has done more to solve the homeless problem and with less expenditure of the pubic funds then Gavin Newsome or any other of his fellow travelers.

When the spring thaw comes to NYC and the tourists don’t except for the foreign tourists who want to visit NYC and are no more informed or care about NYC plight and politics, there will be massive protests and who knows, maybe these 6 figure salary paid protestors will be headed to NYC City Hall. Young people cannot remember when there was no such thing as “homeless”. Vagrancy laws empowered authorities to convey addicts and the mentally ill to facilities designated to care for them. Decades ago, the vagrancy laws were misrepresented as punitive and those unable to function in society were expelled from care facilities in the name of freedom! Now, a daily struggle to survive has been added to their misery.
I agree that hopeless cases should be institutionalized for everybody’s health, safety, sanitation and public image but during the civil rights movement vagrancy laws were definitely used by the D-Bags in the Jim Crow South to persecute innocent people who tried to improve the country. In fact, such laws are open to abuse just about anywhere.

No one in Staten Island voted for Mamdani (OK maybe 1 0r 2), entire sections of the city did not vote for Mamdani. I guess, its difficult for, you out of towners to grasp the size and population of NYC.
