The ‘historic’ new female head of the Olympics is proposing something or other while speaking in those coded signals that can only be picked up by rabid bats and progressives. The most urgent problem in the Olympics would seem to be an end to letting Algerian Muslim men beat up its female fighters, but that’s not what IOC president Kirsty Coventry is talking about.

Change is coming to the Olympic program of sports and events and it is going to be uncomfortable for some, IOC president Kirsty Coventry cautioned on Tuesday.
“We have to be honest about what works and sometimes more importantly what doesn’t,” she said at the International Olympic Committee annual meeting ahead of the Milan Cortina Olympics opening on Friday.
“It means we have to look our sports, disciplines and events with fresh eyes to make sure we are evolving with our times,” Coventry said. “We will face difficult decisions and conversations — that’s part of change.
“I know these discussions can be, and potentially will be, uncomfortable but they are essential if we are to keep the Games strong for generations to come.”
“We have to ensure the Games remain inspiring for young people everywhere,” the two-time Olympic swimming champion said. “That they reflect their values, their sense of authenticity and their search for something genuine.”
The semantic content of this is precisely zero. Nothing of any kind is specified. The speech is all too typical of modern prog-talks filled with ChatGPT buzzwords about change, relevance and empathy while conveying absolutely nothing tangible or meaningful.
Except the overall vibe that we’re looking at leftist politics here and that those politics are being sold in the same ancient fashion of ‘changing with the times’ and the more modern ‘uncomfortable conversations’ as well as the need to reflect the “values” and “sense of authenticity” of the kinds of young people she likes.
How exactly does one apply the sense of authenticity to kicking a ball? When everything is political, then you do it through DEI.
Coventry has consistently pledged to defend and protect “Olympic values,” which include diversity and inclusion.
“That diversity is one of our greatest strengths,” she told more than 100 IOC members, praising the breadth and depth of the experiences they bring to Olympic work. “What an extraordinary group we all are.”
“That is what the world needs from us,” she said. “When we act with empathy and purpose there is no challenge we cannot face. This is the Olympic spirit that defines us.”
You would think her native Zimbabwe would have gotten more than enough DEI.
We’re ruled by a coterie of administrators and bureaucrats who spew senseless drivel and gibberish like this just before they ruin everything. And what’s infuriating is that they don’t just destroy the thing itself, they also destroy language and meaning.

Like Bill Maher said, “the Olympics are gay.” Every four years the televised event wears on for who knows or cares for how long on network TV to low ratings. And who watches network TV anyway? It kills more brain cells than huffing paint or sniffing glue.

I can’t recall a time in my life when I had any interested in watching the Olympics. For me, watching the Olympics is about the same as watching soccer. Boring and uninteresting!
I watched it twice when I was a kid but 1976 was the last time. Even then I was contemptuous because the Soviet Union and its satellite countries always cheated, always doped their athletes to the gills and used what were effectively professional athletes and teams.
I did root for Bruce Jenner in his victory in the 76 decathlon.. He was a handsome champion and he was on the cover of Wheaties boxes back then. Now he’s on the cover of Fruit Loops.
Their kind of “change” is usually bad.
It seems to always be bad to me, except for finally allowing professional athletes to compete after decades of allowing the Soviet Union and its satellites to use what were obviously de facto professionals. Too little, too late for me.
More people watch the Shopping Network than the Olympics. It’s like the Oscars, Golden Globes and Grammys that way.

Olympics is as important to me as the Superbowl. The NFL is one half time show away from me and others so disgusted will look to other gladiator professional athletes to be awed about. For young athletes who made it to the Olympics, to be forced to deal with the Olympic satanic spectacles is losing the core of what they have trained since childhood to be the best at.
Why? Simple: Because they’re dumb people who think they’re smart. It’s no small matter that the democrat party mascot is a jackass.

if any of those athletes Coventry is referring to are Bible believers, hopefully they’re not too heavily involved in any “search.” Hopefully they, for the most part, have “their sense of.authenticity” down and settled, and they already know what is “genuine.”

What I hear in her word salad is that the Olympics are losing viewers as Olympic sports become feminized and the quality of athleticism is just not interesting any more (old midget wrestling vids on youtube are more exciting). So the Olympics are courting a new target audience of young woke females who have mass purchasing power and are a huge potential market for the products (garbage) pushed by the advertisers of the “games”. Most young females (15 to 40) today are woke (it’s their cult) and they buy products only if they’re advertised in a woke way. A Coke commercial with a mixed race or gay couple results in woke females buying Coke products, but the same commercial with a white male and female couple results in woke females boycotting Coke products. Woke females will only support the Olympics if it goes full-blown woke. So it is. The Olympics have been testing the profitability of woke for years with endless trannies, Rapinoes, taking knees, women’s sports featured over men’s, etc. and they found that woke pays big only with woke females. So the era of the Olympics as spectacle of impressive human athleticism is over. The whole thing is now a giant virtue signal for woke females on social media to crow about to their woke cult “friends” while they spend lots of disposable cash (no kids) on lots of woke-advertised garbage to fill the emptiness of their angry morbid meaningless lives.
