The official media messaging is that crime is at “record lows”. New York City media types smugly post selfies while denying that there’s any violence in the city.
And then the governor sends the National Guard to the subway. The subways are officially a war zone.
Nearly 1,000 New York National Guardsmen, state police and MTA cops are being deployed to carry out bag checks in the Big Apple’s crime-ridden subway system, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday.
The additional forces — made up of 750 guardsmen and 250 law enforcement officers — will work alongside the NYPD to patrol “the city’s busiest transit stations” amid a recent surge in underground violence, Hochul said.
“These brazen, heinous attacks on our subway system will not be tolerated,” Hochul said as she announced a five-point plan to crack down on the city’s burgeoning underground crime wave.
It’s historic… in the worst possible way.
This is the sort of thing Mexico has been doing.
I can’t even think of a time when the National Guard was deployed in the subways. Even post 9/11 when Guardsmen were everywhere, I don’t specifically recall them being in the subways.
Not all that long ago, before criminal justice reform and Bill de Blasio, subways were safe.
The problem with them now isn’t even a lack of police. The NYPD has one of the nation’s biggest forces, it’s that there is no functioning prison system.
Gov. Hochul is willing to send the National Guard into the subways, but not to bring back bail. And without bail, an end to diversion programs and a refusal to prosecute crimes by pro-crime DAs like Alvin Bragg, none of this matters.
The serial thieves and sexual predators, and the gang members and even the schizophrenic meth random stabbers may give it a break while they’re looking at men (and women) in uniform, and then go back to what they’re doing because they know that there are no real consequences.
This is empty theater that mostly inconveniences commuters. It may keep a few thugs from carrying a gun or knife on the subway, but the system is big enough that there are always workarounds and you can’t keep the Guard indefinitely deployed in the subway system anyway.
The solution is to bring back bail, rebuild and reopen the prison system and lock up repeat offenders.
That’s what brought down crime in the 90s. Undoing that destroyed public safety now. The only way to bring down crime is to lock up the criminals.
when your policy ideas are so completely bankrupt that only the threat of pure, lethal force can get people even to consider behaving…
I would be very surprised if any of theNational Guard members had “live ammunition” at all, but then this is New York. I wonder what the Rules of Engagement will look like?
Although non-natives have always had reservations about living there, pre-woke New York City used to be a darn nice place to visit.
Very good question. Does not the NYPD carry live rounds?
They don’t like trained police, do they think they’ll like soldiers any better? Soldiers aren’t trained to subdue people. they’re trained to kill them. That’s why using soldiers as police has historically been a bad idea, usually with deadly results.
I think a lot of this is New York wanting to spend less for their manpower. Soldiers work cheaper than police, and don’t get overtime. In the 80s, we called ourselves America’s cheap labor force.
I think it is a step towards militarizing the police against the citizens – progress towards totalitarianism.
There’d be no need for the National Guard on the subway if Curtis Sliwa were mayor instead of Eric Adams, who cannot reverse the damage done by Bill De Blasio and who perpetually looks like a deer in the headlights. Additionally, Alvin Bragg (who like Letitia James belongs in prison himself for malicious and SELECTIVE prosecutions) lets most violent felons back on the street (certainly if they’re black, brown or “woke”) but arrests a Good Samaritan who protected a subway car full of passengers from a criminal with over 50 arrests, including kidnapping and breaking the jaw of a 60 year old woman.
Gotta problem with NYC?
Crime and corruption blues?
Call 1-800-Giulliani
He did what dems said couldn’t be done. They certainly couldn’t, and still can’t.
It would be magnitudes more efficient to arrests the well known usual suspects. Just ask the Cops. They are well known by Law enforcement.
And this isn’t coincidentally happening around the time of a 100% terror threat (supposedly).
I’m not suggesting there is no terror threat. But If terror doesn’t happen, then can Hochul and other fakers take a victory lap? “We kept the subways safe” blah blah blah
They really need to crack down on violent felons released too early Gangs Drug Cartels Antifa/BLM Bolsheviks/Brownshirts Etc..
What a joke! The Nat’l. Guard will end up stopping to intimidate middle class looking, mostly White commuters to search their bags, briefcases and even their persons while the criminals point and laugh.
Every week my town has a police report. Last week there was 21 police involved incidences including both crimes. Yes, both as in 2 crimes. A police incidence is anything from them helping change a tire to arresting the bad guy.
Make fun of us in Midwest small town flyover country if you will but i will take this any time over NYC.
Your shipment of illegals is just over the horizon.
None of this is accidental, merely a socialist means to an end. NYC will probably just be the first, that’s all. Democrats may loathe the police, but they love a police state. First they create the problem, then they justify further extremes “for your safety”. NYC’s residents are the most spied on in the world, with the average sidewalk citizen on no less than three cameras at any given time. Hochul had already planned on a massive increase of surveillance systems, but first she had to justify them to the public. That’s where letting crime go unchecked comes in.
When we consider the long range goals of socialist Democrats; the elimination of rural America (because they’re uncontrollable) and the introduction of the “15 minute” urban mega-cities, their game plan becomes clearer. This is all about control. They realize that if they take away a people’s right to self defense and allow the criminal element free reign, folks will beg for the jackboots.
Get out now while you can. Rural America is calling, where 2nd Amendment rights are protected, crime is significantly lower and you can shop in a store (that’s free of crime) without needing customer service to unlock the cases for you. Become uncontrollable.
“I don’t specifically recall them being in the subways.”
Well, then. It must not have happened! You’re a buffoon.
a schizophrenic and worthless limey wanker is calling someone else a buffoon? hahaha yeah, that’s pretty fvckin” rich!
Call it Hochul’s martial law initiative. Next they’ll be out on the sidewalks.
