Liberals love ‘normalizing’ discourse. Don’t normalize this. Don’t normalize that. Meanwhile, they normalize the worst possible things.
Like a terrorist leader taking over a country.
The French and German foreign ministers have met Syria’s new leaders and called for an inclusive transition of power, in the first visit by European Union ministers to Syria since the Assad regime fell in December.
France’s Jean-Noël Barrot was in the Syrian capital Damascus alongside his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, where they met Syria’s de facto leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed Al Jolani.
Sharaa’s HTS led the rebellion that toppled Assad and his group has sought to distance itself from its past affiliation with al Qaeda.
“Rebellion”. HTS is a Turkish-backed Islamic terrorist group formerly affiliated with Al Qaeda. There was arguably a rebellion during the Syrian Civil War, but there wasn’t one now. Turkey and HTS simply exploited Hezbollah’s beating at the hands of Israel to march in and take the country while cutting assorted deals with the military and anyone else in power.
That is not a rebellion or a revolution.
As bad as the Arab Spring takeovers were, they at least had some facade of civilian control. Now European foreign ministers are flying in to meet with the leader of the terrorist group who took over at gunpoint. And says there may be elections in four years or so.
At least Blinken didn’t fly in to meet with Al-Jolani or whatever he’s calling himself now.
It’s one thing to have some sort of diplomatic contacts with a warlord who took over a country (though any relevant contacts can probably be made through Ankara) but a foreign minister visiting a country offers a great deal or prestige and effectively recognition. Why even do this? The same Eurocrats visiting Damascus to meet with the head of a terror group and take some photos, go nuts every time Israel builds a house in territory claimed by the terrorists? Hypocrisy? No.
They support Islamic terrorists. It’s as simple as that.
Brilliant article. The first thing I thought when I saw the header was how they are legitimizing the terrorists. Then Daniel hit that same point in the first line, how they are normalizing the terrorists 🙂
Surprised this article didn’t get more comments, since it is so brilliant and insightful. The EU immediately jumps into bed with the terrorists, that’s the “enlightened” EU Diplomacy of today.
And one day they may pay the price for this all and I have seen Pictures of Coffee Cup Annan with Castro Saddam and other Terrorists and Despots
Europe is succumbing to a slow, painful death. It started once it became the EU. No one is going to save them this time around. We need to save ourselves.
