I remember when South Africa set the bar high with car-mounted flamethrowers. LA’s regulatory environment isn’t quite ready for it yet, but here comes Uber for private security.
If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you needed an armed bodyguard complete with a private motorcade to escort you in Los Angeles, there’s now an app for that.
“Protector,” which launched Tuesday in LA and New York City, gives users on-demand access to armed ex-military and law enforcement to chauffeur them around town, making the process of hiring elite security professionals as easy as booking a ride through a rideshare app.
The app touts easy mobile booking 24-hours in advance, with a same-day option coming soon, officials said.
Standard service includes a Protector and a black car (Escalade/Suburban) starting at $100 an hour, with a 5-hour minimum.
Protector is also set to launch another product, Patrol, in Los Angeles. This platform will enable neighborhoods to organize and fund community security efforts, offering real-time tracking and enhanced coordination.
I’ve seen more armed private security in Los Angeles than in some third-world kleptocracies. Mall cops in body armor and with heavy firepower and black cars can be frequently seen in the wealthier neighborhoods of L.A.
How many of them actually know what they’re doing is anybody’s guess, but they’re prepped for battles that only happen in movies or south of the border, but these days the border isn’t as far south as it used to be.
So why not Uber for bodyguards and then Discord for neighborhood watches and community guards.
People have learned that they can’t count on law enforcement as long as it’s answerable to lefty politicians who believe that criminals are an oppressed underclass and they’re finding alternatives to law enforcement.
That’s a good idea.
Also shows what happens when leftist government becomes too dysfunctional.
Yes, that is a good idea, seeing as how LA Mayor Karen Ass and her hand picked Po Po Chief Jim McDonnell are both sleazy, slimy and incompetent career politicians who love criminals and hate John & Joan Q. Public. Everybody in that shithole of a city have their lives in jeopardy just by being within the city limits. Citizens can’t even cower in their bedrooms because of the home invasions, and if they shoot a perp, they get prosecuted for protecting themselves and their families. Only well connected elitists and movie stars can get away with that shit. Even off duty cops will be prosecuted if the intruder they shoot is one of the usual suspects.
“Mall cops in body armor and with heavy firepower and black cars can be frequently seen in the wealthier neighborhoods of L.A.” Sounds good to me. I wonder where they were when the usual suspects in BLM rampaged through Rodeo Dr and the Golden Triangle while the cops looked on back in 2020? I guess that Dirtbagocrat approved orgy of looting and vandalism and the election of Karen Ass as Mayor in 2022 woke business owners up.
I feel safer when I see guys in body armor with heavy firepower standing guard. I used to have to explain to my lefty teacher friends that the ones in Indonesia and Singapore were there to shoot criminals, not us. Hell, they went out of their way to protect us whiteys.
There was a security guard who would follow me and my girl around in an Indonesian shopping mall and when I confronted him, he admitted that he did so because he was worried about my safety, not suspicious of me being a thief. That’s why I was initially pissed off, because Indonesia is a land of petty thieves and I figured I was the only guy in that mall above suspicion. He’s a good guy and we were always friendly to each other after that.
I wish I could afford “Protector” because if I go out in public armed for self protection, I’m the one the cops may shoot or arrest. I’ve been attacked more than once in San Jose and even had one of the usual suspects try to push me in front of an oncoming light rail train, like the ones you see in those videos of NYC subway platforms.
Yeah. Another thing that happens is vigilante groups form. I’ve been following stories about that.
More power to them. America needs “Death Wish” squads. It’s not like cops protect citizens in cities run by D-Bags. Just look at what Hamas, BLM, Antifa, abortion baby killers and assorted lefties get away with and what usually happens when people fight back.
There is some good news for LA, though. It’s new DA, Nathan Hochman, who replaced that pro-crime scumbag, George Asscunt, is a law and order hawk who’s already charged one of those pro-Mexican illegal aliens rioters with two felonies (El Senõr Bandito Frijoles faces 7 years and 4 months in prison) and doesn’t play around with the citiy’s gutter criminals. When gutter trash get arrested, he’s free to go after them. He doesn’t answer to da Mayor or da Chief of the Po-Po.
You reminded me, that even decades ago, when I used to ride BART in Berkeley (home of the crazies) I used to move to areas in the station where there weren’t many people and noone could get behind me to push me on the tracks. And always keep watch to see if one of the crazies was sneaking up behind me. And be focused on keeping my balance in case I got pushed.
Yeah, your caution is well founded. I was at one of the better light rail stations when that piece of shit tried to push me. He got away before I could catch him, to make matters even worse. For once the train doors opened and closed right away and he escaped. I went back to that station every day for a week but never saw him. The station a block away from my house is the worst one in town.
People in NYC and Chicago have been murdered that way by the usual suspects.
It shows what happens when we have hired out the only function that was originally planned for government. If protection of life and possessions is beyond the ability of the “government”, then it needs to be totally dissolved. Back to my couch now of course.
You are spot on. Vigilante justice arises because civilization requires it.
The Protector men will inevitably be charged with crimes in the performance of their services, so will protectees be charged as accomplices or accessories? Probably yes. Government business lately seeks to destroy and replace heritage Americans, paid for with our tax dollars and aid from foreign enemies and haters abroad (using USAID $?).
The lawsuits that will arise will be interesting. What will be the prosecution argue? If government is consistent, the strategy will have to be a prettied-up form of the assertion of the superior “right” of the perpetrator freely to perform his crimes unhindered by rights self-defense or defense of others.
Likely all the Protector employees sent out to perform these services are men, also. Reality has a way of re-asserting itself. Will Protector provide them with a defense?
By the way, the man who invented the flame throwing BMW to deter car jackers in South Africa is Charl Fourie. His invention was awarded an Ig Nobel Peace Prize. Too funny.
Car manufacturers ought to figure out a cheap option drivers could purchase that would allow them to push a button if they were being carjacked.
And bullet proof windows.
They really need to get back to punshing Violent Felons with a longer time in prison close the Border and Vote Out Soft on Crime Liberal Democrats
The leftists are the mentally unstable instigators of constant mayhem and crime. While this offers something for the elite (many of whom are responsible for voting in these asinine regulations protecting criminals), this does nothing to address the dangers for the public who are unable to afford such a luxury to insure their safety.
As we have witnessed time and time again, the elite vote for this crap and then save themselves from the very impact that will logically arise from it.
Like other blue states they take care of themselves leaving everybody else to fend for themselves without being able to use the very weaponry necessary for self protection.
They learn NOTHING and still cling to an entitlement that money can buy but is immoral and indifferent to others’ suffering.
The state where I live now has open carry. I was grocery shopping and a business man entered with a holstered side arm. A friend and his wife were at an ice cream shop standing in line and he heard a car roll up in front of the shop but the driver didn’t cut the engine. The passenger walked in and my friend simply moved so the guy could see he was carrying. He turned around and left. Probably a likely hit and run robbery avoided. My friend is a former Marine and his wife’s safety and that of others is his normative stance.
I have honestly tried to understand leftists but it is Impossible when the madness they live in rejects the fundamentals of cause and effect.
Hopefully, with the deportation of illegals and an armed, closed border we will start seeing the restoration of law and order. Trump will have to use some high-level leverage on Newsom and the other blue-state governors to get them in line but money talks and criminal violations of Federal Immigration laws might just be required so he and the others learn they are NOT above the law! If they don’t comply, LOCK THEM UP!
Good post, Gabrielle.
Making our decline to Turd World status smart-phone-adjacent…
Let’s hope and pray the MAGA revolution will stick …
And this company will fail due to lack of need.
Generally, I support new businesses and I like the idea here, but
it should never have come to this.
BTW: I’m surprised they didn’t try to license “Mad Max” …
Frontier justice” worked in the past and it can work again. Normal law enforcement has become unreliable. The American eople have a right to resort to other means to seek justice and restore law & order.
Bounty hunting is a noble and needed profession. Time to make it great again!
