Unfortunately, the history books are filled with stories addressing failed peace agreements which resulted in major setbacks to the involved nations.
The classic example is the peace agreement between Nazi Germany and the British Prime Minister Chamberlain, who showed his people the document of “Peace in Our Times” which was signed by Hitler and encouraged Hitler to advance his expansionist dreams, which resulted in World War II.
The failure of the Oslo Accords was another important example of a failed attempt to reach a peace agreement. One of the most important reasons for the failure of the accords was the lack of education for peace and reconciliation in the Arab schools and in the media.
This serious problem was enacted by design. When the leader of the PLO Yasser Arafat was asked by his people, why did he agree to proceed with a track towards a peace agreement with the state of Israel in 1993, he responded by referring to the deceptive actions of the Prophet Muhammad as they were related to his presumed peace agreement with the tribe of the Quraysh in Mecca, which was called the Treaty of al-Hudaybiya. Once Muhammad felt strong enough, the treaty was violated, he killed the Jews in the city of Kaybar and he ended up expanding his control on multiple tribes in the region.
As Israel is dealing with the terrorist organizations of Hamas in the Gaza strip and with Hezbollah in Lebanon, it is very clear, that these terrorist organizations have no intention to advance the situation toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict. This is in line with their hope to implement an imposed world domination, by which they will be able to force their religious ideology on everyone across the globe.
The fact that Hamas is a part of the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood, and Hezbollah is a part of the axis of evil, which is led by the Shiite Iran, do not fight each other at this time, is related to the fact that they are fighting a common enemy composed of the state of Israel and the Western society led by the USA.
The fact that the head of this terror snake, Iran, is behind much of the unrest in the Middle East and elsewhere, is a major part of the ongoing problems, which includes the stubbornness of Hamas not to release the Israeli hostages, despite the international pressure on them to do so. Hamas is also hoping to hold on to the hostages as a safety net, to ensure their own survival, and their own hope to rebuild their forces. They stated repeatedly that they would try to challenge Israel again and again, until their successful annihilation of the state of Israel. Just before the very recent military escalation in Gaza, there were intelligence reports that Hamas intended to attack Israel, to get even more hostages.
In addition, there were recent serious terror attacks by the controlling new leaders of the Sunni Syrian forces on the Shiite Alawites and the Christian citizens in Western Syria, where there were reports of more than 20,000 dead victims. At the same time, there is ongoing serious unrest in Turkey against Erdogan and his supporters, because they jailed their opposition leader. Turkey seems to have major nefarious intentions to expand its control and influence, over the neighboring countries, including on the Kurds, on Syria, and on Israel.
At the same time, Egypt is building its military in the Sinai Peninsula and establishing a major local force that goes way beyond the terms of the 1979 peace agreement with Israel. This is a very troubling situation especially because, despite the peace agreement with Israel, Egypt did not change its educational system to teach peace and reconciliation with Israel, despite playing an important role in the new peace negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
This lack of proper education for peace is true also for the kingdom of Jordan.
Therefore, it is imperative that the state of Israel and the responsible leaders of the free world should insist upon the following:
1. Hamas must release immediately all the hostages from Gaza.
2. Hamas must be disarmed and removed from controlling Gaza, as it will lower the chances of Hamas trying to rebuild its forces, kidnap more Israelis, and initiate terror activities in Israel and across the globe.
3. Gaza must be demilitarized as to give a chance to the locals to rebuild their lives in a peaceful environment, where peace is promoted in the schools and in the media.
4. Serious effort must be made to educate the young and the adult population, for peace and reconciliation, across the entire Middle East.
5. International pressure must be placed on Iran to stop its race towards building atomic bombs and to stop its support for terror organizations across the globe.
6. A serious pressure must be placed on Erdogan in Turkey, to stop his race towards dictatorship and regional domination, as it will help advance peace in the region.
7. Egypt and Jordan must be encouraged to start educating their population for peaceful coexistence with Israel and to reduce their military buildup in the Sinai Peninsula, and in the East Bank of the Jordan River, to reduce the chances of military confrontation with Israel.
8. If the people in the region move towards better neighborly relations, Russia and China will hopefully dial down their level of involvement in the region, which will benefit everyone.
9. Once the instigators of the terrorist activity from Iran and from elsewhere, will be under control, even the Houthis will probably decide that it is not in their interest to interrupt the international navigation in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, especially as they must deal with severe military actions by the USA and other allies.
Hopefully, wisdom will prevail, and we will be able to build a better future for everyone.
“Hopefully wisdom will prevail……” No chance! There is no wisdom in terrorism or Islam.. They want world domination and simply cannot see reason.
unfortunately dr. katz is delusional . education is not going to be the panacea that israel and the west keep touting . educated people keep saying the 2 state fiction is the solution even after oct. 7 . barbarians dont want to be educated , they want to remain ignorant . if education is the solution germany a supposed educated class would not have implemented the holocaust . america has a so called educated class and look what has come out of the cess pits of the colleges and universities , nothing but ignorant morons . israel is hated world wide not just in the middle east . like the bible says ” israel will be a byword amongst the nations ” peace will elude israel until they honor yeshua their messiah . best of luck dr. katz with another fiction in line with the 2 state ruse .
Thank you for trying to address this very complicated issue, even if it is in an irrational way. One of the possible ways to give the world a chance to survive is by having wise and responsible people in the world, understand that their own skin is in the game. People must understand that the radicals and especially Radical Islam, are aiming for world domination and for the elimination of ALL infidel, Jews, Christians and even Muslims, who do not agree with them. To help people address this dangerous problem, they should identify and learn the true facts. This will help them identify, expose, marginalize, and eliminate, the evil operative, who thrive on deceiving the oblivious and ignorant individuals. Should we do this, tomorrow may be better than yesterday.
I understand your point, Sir, but you must understand these barbarians *want* to die. They see it as the highest peak of their existence. “Skin in the game” only works if your opponent cares for his own skin and that of innocents. Radical Islamists do not.
Make sure the Doves are for Real and not Vultures posing as Doves
As if the rag heads would ever want peace.
PLO-dude of yesteryear said, in so many words that there is no such thing as a palestinian. The people are from regypt and saudi arabia and a couple other places. So, send them home, vacate the gaza strip completely, fence it off as no man’s land, and leave it stand empty once the buildings are gone and the garbage is all in a landfill. Cursed ground, as long as people are on it, the djinns will not rest.
Best course of action is : Kill all hamass! Kill them ALL or they will return to kill you! Next, raze gaza and bury the debris along the Israeli border – thus preventing any tunneling! Next, relocate gazans to “friendly” muslim Nations! Turkey should have openings since so many went to the EU! Next, create a PEACE ZONE in gaza! Have a virtual paradise of life there! – no islam allowed – no guns allowed – no rockets allowed!
Do all of that and it should be kind of a nice place!
There will be nothing approximating “peace” as long as the jihadis are in control of Iran. Terror operations, supporting infrastructure (e.g., tunnel networks), and weapons require a sponsor and a lot of money. Iran is the primary snake in this Islamist Hydra that includes Qatar, Saudi, Egypt, the PLA, and others, most of whom are playing a double game of funding terror operations while claiming to help Western-led peace initiatives. Adding to this are the Western states and their organizations who continue funding these terror operatives directly or indirectly. This has to end.
There are a few must-do’s:
1) Israel should occupy and rebuild (with foreign support) the entire Gaza strip and completely eliminate Hamas.
2) Israel should also annex the Golan Heights and the entirety of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).
3) Hezbollah has to be eliminated as a military threat to Israel, whatever it takes. We should remember that Hezbollah (also Hamas) are international terror organizations supporting operations throughout Europe and areas of South and Central America.
3) The Islamist jihadis in control of Iran must be eliminated (with extreme prejudice). Until this terrorist state is taken down, there will continue to be attacks from all of its proxies in the region in addition to direct attacks from Iran on Israel as well as U.S. forces in the region. With improving weapons in the hands of these jihadi proxies, the existential risks to Israel will rise to intolerable levels.
4) The support to Iran from Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, and N. Korea has to be eliminated. This translates into draconian economic warfare against this axis of evil. The U.S. can do much more than it is doing now.
Until Israel has more defensible borders, the neighboring Islamists will perceive a weakness to be exploited and continue their armed hostilities.
These jihadis and their supporters have been at war with the West for 1400 years and have seized much of what they currently occupy through invasions, terror, and genocide. There have been critical points throughout this history when the Muslim invaders had to be turned back at great cost. We are now at another critical juncture when the very survival of nations and peoples will depend on defeating them once again.
Dr. Shmuel Katz (whoever he is) begins his article detailing the failure of negotiations, especially with Muslim true believers following Muhammad’s false peace treaty with the Quraysh in Mecca and how it only held until Muhammad’s forces had become strong enough to break the treaty and attack and kill the Quraysh tribe.
Then, he turns around and advocates – more peace treaties with Muslims! This is insane.
Hamas, composed entirely of Muslim true believers, will never release all the hostages except under duress, and will always try to kidnap more. So-called education efforts across the Middle East to promote peace will never get off the ground because the people in charge of education across the Middle East are Muslim true believers.
International pressure, which he also advocates, has proven over the years to be as effective as cotton candy, and almost as strong. In other words, it’s worthless, and the Muslim true believers conquering Europe the same way Johnny Cash got his car, one piece at a time, know it.
Iran, also composed of Muslim true believers will never lay down its nuclear ambitions, and the Houthis, also composed entirely of Muslim true believers, will never stop attacking any and all, except under duress.
Dr. Shmuel Katz (again, whoever he is) is playing the same old song-and-dance that has failed for the last 70 years. Ignore him. Carpet bomb Gaza.
Teach the young peace or teach them the Koran; which is it, you can’t do both. Allah is the greatest of deceivers
1 Thessalonians 5
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Those are nice sounding words and I’m sure they were expressed with the sincere stated goal of establishing peace by Dr. Katz. But, there will be no peace for Israel – ever. Robert Spencer in an above piece states it as:
A Muslim cleric from Egypt, Sheikh Salam Abd Al-Qawi, emphasized on Egypt’s Al-Nas TV on January 8, 2009, that hatred of the Jews is a religious obligation mandated by Islam: “Hating the enemies of Allah is very important. We must teach our children, our youngsters, our brothers, and all the Muslims to hate the accursed Zionist Jews. Why not? They teach their children to hate us. Our hatred of the Jews is based upon our faith. The Koran tells us to hate them, not to love them…. We must teach our children to obey Allah, to obey the Prophet Muhammad, and to hate the Jews, the Zionists, and what the Zionists are planning. We must raise them on the Koranic verses that call to fight and wage jihad for the sake of Allah. We want to raise our children to love jihad for the sake of Allah. We must teach our children that death for the sake of Allah is our most lofty goal.”
The Muslims must be defeated on the battlefield. The Muslims must be made to doubt their divine commandments to wage jihad against unbelievers and ask themselves, “Where was Allah when we needed him. Why has he allowed them to trample us like dogs into the dirt, to drive swine through our mosques, and to take our women and children and convert them to their faith?” Let us find out, like Elijah on Mount Carmel whose God is real and whose is fake. This is a priority not just for Jews and the State of Israel, but for what was once termed “Christendom” as well, for dark times are ahead, and survival depends on believers and followers of the G-d of Israel working together.
RE: “Hopefully, wisdom will prevail, and we will be able to build a better future for everyone.”
History spans some 5000 years. In all that time there is very little evidence of wisdom. What has prevailed and will continue to do so is war, blood & death – powered by ambition, lust, greed & power. Nothing has changed except that we have far better weapons to kill than ever and they always improve over time.
