In the DEI wars, another victory for the side of right, as the egregious Mark Zuckerberg, determined to curry favor with President Trump, has decided to shut down his DEI-centered school. It was a poster child for DEI, and so diverse that 85% of its staff consisted of “people of color” and an even greater percentage — 95% — of its students were “students of color.” More on this victory for common sense and fairness can be found here: “‘Anti-Racist,’ Tuition-Free School Founded By Mark Zuckerberg’s Wife Announces Surprise Closure,” by Novi Zhukovsky, New York Sun, April 23, 2025:
A tuition-free “anti-racist” private school founded by Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, will close its doors at the end of the 2025-2026 school year after nearly a decade in operation, the school has announced.
The California-based school, called The Primary School, has campuses in East Palo Alto and the East Bay and is financially backed by the billionaire couple’s charity, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The school opened in 2016 with the stated goal of providing both education services and physical and mental health care to low-income families in Silicon Valley.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion — which President Trump is seeking to eradicate — appears to be central to the school’s ethos. According to its website, the school seeks to identify its students’ “barriers to learning” and to work with their families “to overcome them.” Such obstacles include “poverty, housing insecurity, racism, and other stressful and traumatic situations” as well as “untreated physical health barriers — like cavities, asthma, or hunger,” the school says on its website.
What other “barriers to learning” might need to be investigated? What about a “culture” that celebrates the obscene rants of hip-hop “artists,” or subliterate sports stars with their grotesque salaries, or game show hosts such as Steve Harvey, whose idiotic programs have mesmerized millions? What about I.Q. levels, that if sufficiently low would certainly constitute a “barrier to learning,” or is that a subject that must never be mentioned, considering the calumnies heaped on those who have dared to discuss the matter dispassionately, including J. D. Watson (he of the DNA helix), Arthur Jensen, William Shockley, J. Philippe Rushton, and the authors of “The Bell Curve,” Richard Herrnstein and Charles Murray?
The school also employs an “anti-racist” approach to learning that is meant “to combat historical narratives and a deficit mindset.” The curriculum is designed to teach students “about other cultures and ways of thinking” as well as help them “explore and share their own cultural identity,” the school notes.
What’s a “deficit mindset”? And which “historical narratives” need to be “combated”? Could it be that those are the “narratives” that focus on, study, and celebrate, Western civilization, of which this country is a part? Are those “narratives” that don’t reveal the astonishing achievements of people in Africa or in the Muslim lands the ones that must be “combated”?
The school is proud of its “diversity.” But how can a school where 85% of its staff consists of “people of color” and 95% of its student body are “students of color” be considered “diverse”? It sounds more like a segregated school to me. As for the staff, it appears to be jobs program, to which no whites need apply. Shouldn’t the Zuckerbergs have tried harder to enroll white staff and white students, so as to make the school “more diverse”? More “equitable”? More “inclusive”?
Ah, Zuckerberg the businessman, with a quite unnecessary net worth of $168 billion, making him the second richest man in the world (and he’s creeping up on Elon Musk, whose colossal losses at Tesla have cost him tens of billions of dollars), doesn’t want to antagonize the Trump administration. He is intent on having his businesses treated favorably by Donald Trump, and is willing to trim his progressive sails. How quickly does this Exeter-Harvard-Silicon Valley liberal turn Turk. He assured the employees of his school, The Primary School with two campuses, East Palo Alto and East Bay, where 95% of students, and 85% of the staff, are “people of color,” that he would not change his policies at the schools whatever pressure was applied. But soon enough, seeing that Trump was determined to stamp out DEI as a curse and an abomination, Zuckerberg became like the lady in Byron’s “Don Juan” and “whispering that he’d ne’er consent, consented.” Now he hasn’t just changed the DEI policies at the schools in the Bay Area he’d been supporting; he’s shut them down entirely.
Zuckerberg has also vowed to shut down DEI at Meta, including Facebook. The proof is in the pudding. Let’s see if Zuckerberg really ends Meta’s diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in its hiring practices, and in the newly “diverse” content it allows on its platforms, including making the heretofore ferociously “progressive” Meta more open to conservative opinions. But at least, by closing this DEI-soaked school down, Zuckerberg is off to a good start.
