The Left has one big card to play and that’s moral inversion. The familiar one is “your speech is violence, their violence is speech.” Here’s a new/old one recently getting brushed off.
“Your education is indoctrination, their indoctrination is education.”
“West Point Is Supposed to Educate, Not Indoctrinate.” That’s how a New York Times op-ed from Graham Parsons, a philosophy professor at West Point, takes on the order to stop indoctrinating students.
Parsons announced that he’s resigning because Secretary of Defense Hegseth’s order ending woke indoctrination was undermining West Point (rather than ending woke indoctrination being the actual force undermining West Point)
“Then came the executive order from Mr. Trump on Jan. 27 and Mr. Hegseth’s memo two days later. Mr. Trump’s order prohibited any educational institution operated by the armed forces from ‘promoting, advancing or otherwise inculcating’ certain ‘un-American’ theories, including “gender ideology” and the idea that ‘America’s founding documents are racist or sexist.’”
Mr. Parsons presumably has a problem with not promoting those ideas. Ending indoctrination is apparently the real indoctrination.
“Whatever you think about various controversial ideas — Mr. Hegseth’s memo cited critical race theory and gender ideology — students should engage with them and debate their merits rather than be told they are too dangerous even to be contemplated.”
Are students actually engaging with them? Are they receiving source materials and being encouraged to argue, for example, that men can’t magically become women, or that systemic racism has long since become a myth?
Is a course like this one really promoting multiple perspectives or is it encouraging a one-sided view that America is a bad place? And should West Point really be promoting that view to the military’s future leaders?
PL377: SOCIAL INEQUALITY – Cadets are introduced to several theoretical perspectives intended to explain the structure of social stratification in the United States. The course examines the state of social inequality in the United States, with a focus on social class, integration, mobility, and equality of opportunity. Cadets explore individual and structural perspectives of social inequality. Cadets evaluate social issues, policies, and programs intended to influence social inequality. Throughout the course, cadets discuss the relevance of class, race, ethnicity, and gender on social opportunity and inequality.
This actually is indoctrination. The Trump administration should be hailed for trying to end indoctrination and restore education. But your education is indoctrination, their indoctrination is education.
Although I agree with you (and Trump) Daniel, neither you nor Trump is getting to the real issue, which is, that we, in addition to our political, religious, gender beliefs, unknowingly, engage, day in day out, in Disembodied Language (DL), in which we don’t listen to ourselves, while we speak and, consequently, believe in inner language or a mind. Stopping DL and engaging in ongoing Embodied Language (EL), that is the real issue.
The left is trying to destroy the American military by inserting leftist concepts into military doctrine.
The title is a great corollary to Ace over at Ace of Spades HQ’s maxim that “Our Speech is violence but their violence is speech.”
Cheers Daniel.
Critical race theory and gender ideology are not too dangerous to be contemplated they are too idiotic to be contemplated. Just like every iota of a cracker they hate, every iota of their ideology is stupid.
So hate and “their” ideology are stupid. So much packed into that little statement.
It is idiotic because it is motivated by hate, not truth, and it is “theirs” because it is the way they FEEL, which motivates their thinking – rather than the other way around – thinking motivating feeling.
We can and should all embrace truth – no matter how we feel about it, no matter how “ugly” it is. Failure to do so creates the “globo-homo trash world” described by Andrew Isker.
Hey intrepid, I got a twofer for you today, The bumper sticker on my car states DEI: Didn’t Earn It. (It’s right next to the bumper sticker that states Truth: the New Hate Speech.) However, I also have a custom-made t-shirt that states DEI: Destroying Education through Indoctrination that I proudly wear. Which one of these reinforces your assertion that I am a liberal? Commence with the name-calling and gay jokes. (I’ll count this twofer as #2.)
Eventually, all this will come at a price. A price America will not be able to afford. What all too often goes undiscussed is that manhood, womanhood and the notion of family is under attack. Indoctrination is just one of the prongs in that attack. Moreover, the left method are clever and insidious. They indoctrinate the children starting in kindergarten.
The day is coming in the not to distant future when the people in this country will be amenable to the dissolution of the United Stated of America or at least seriously entertain the notion of a complete re-write of the US Constitution. The left have made their opinion of the US Constitution very clear on many occasions and it’s not good.
Some patently crazy ideas- like men can be women or vice versa – do not merit any engagement at all, unless “engagement” is ridicule and mocking.
Hegseth is right. Carry on!
The leftists NEA is all about Brainwashing and Indoctrination its never been about Education just Leftists Brainwashing
In a course on the topic of liberty for senior-year students, those students read about and discussed controversial issues such as reparations, affirmative action, “minimum wage,” rent control,” food stamps, immigration, the death penalty, inheritance tax, the military draft and many others. I made an effort to assign readings that gave alternative views. Because the course had a ton of reading, only the seniors willing to work took the course.
The students clearly enjoyed discussing controversial topics. To comply with a school requirement for the course, students were required to put in 20 hours of community service and write about it. I encouraged them to be honest and at least half stated i their reflection that they resented the community service requirement and found it a waste of their time. One of the topics we discussed was a mandatory community service requirement for high school graduation.
In my opinion, we shouldn’t be making discussion of DEI off limits. It is important to understand that all unequal outcomes are not the result of systemic “ism.” It is also important to consider how much of unequal outcomes, if any, is a result of some systemic “ism.”
When education is indoctrination, it is the deliberate selection of only preferential information requiring agreement without encouraging and applauding critical thinking.
In the pursuit of truth, education becomes an essential part in examining the fundamental premises and assumptions being asserted, both apparent and closeted, and providing an encouraging environment for such investigation and critique. Without a teaching environment that encourages and applauds the development of these skills, it severely impedes intelligent investigation, acting instead to prevent any forms of innovative thinking, reasoning and substantiating, conclusive judgment.
Indoctrination actively solicits, in explicit approval, only that which is regurgitated without challenge or change. It is a fundamental requirement of indoctrination to act as an agent in the prevention of higher level thinking processes.
Ultimately, indoctrination establishes the enslavement of human beings to the dictated thoughts and regulations of others. When done effectively, people surrender, through reinforcement or punishment, their self governance to the demands and commands from others.
Thus, indoctrination is the deliberate and fundamentally vile desecration of the intrinsic beauty and significance of individual life.
