Lefties love talking about the environment. They wax on about how wonderful things would be if it weren’t for capitalism, while neglecting to mention that the world’s worst environmental disasters, especially in the USSR and Communist China, were socialist disasters.
Let’s forget Chernobyl for a moment.
)The USSR killed 338,000 whales. Its relentless illegal whaling fleets drove the blue whale into extinction in the North Pacific and caused population crashes in a number of other species.
Some have labeled it the worst environmental crime of the century, but it was really just a slow day for the USSR whose other contributions to the environment included destroying one of the four largest lakes in the world.
By the end, 75 percent of its surface water was polluted and its air was among the dirtiest in the world.
Other countries just drilled for oil. The USSR tried to drill for oil using nuclear bombs. It also tried to use nuclear bombs to search for gas and coal making it the only country in the world whose coal was also radioactive.
But the USSR wasn’t completely neglectful of the environment. It also tried to use nuclear bombs to create holes for storing toxic waste.
Now the next Exxon Valdez disaster is coming up and it’s brought to you by the glories of socialism.
Concerns are growing that an oil tanker carrying millions of gallons of oil could spill its load into the sea between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, causing an ecological catastrophe.
The Nabarima is carrying 1.3 million barrels of crude oil, according to Venezuelan politicians and green activist groups. With up to 80 million gallons of oil, a spill from the vessel could cause an ecological disaster: In the Exxon Valdex spill of 1989, one of the worst oil spills recorded, 11 million gallons were released covering an area twice the size of Rhode Island.
Venezuela has previously said the vessel is safe, but environment activists and politicians say new pictures show it is tilting at an increased rate.
Venezuela has also said that inflation is a myth before it hit one million percent inflation, so the claims of socialists should be taken with a grain of salt.
The Nabarima is jointly owned by the Venezuelan state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and Eni, the Italian oil giant.
Venezuela’s takeover of its oil industry wrecked its oil production. Now it’s visiting its own socialist disaster on other nations.
