The Cuomo 2024 presidential campaign finally has its slogan. And if he ever tries to run and gets the nomination, Republicans have their attack ad. And while New York appears as unwinnable as California, New York Republicans will still be able to deploy that line to good effect in local races.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday ratcheted up his verbal feud with President Donald Trump saying “we’re not going to make America great again, it was never that great.”

The comment, seemingly meant as a dig at the president’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, drew laughter and gasps from the crowd on Wednesday and swift backlash on social media.

I don’t think that counts as a verbal feud with Trump. It’s a verbal feud with America.

In a statement sent several hours after Cuomo’s comments, his press secretary Dani Lever sought to clarify the governor’s comments.

“Governor Cuomo disagrees with the President,” Lever said in a statement sent to ABC News. “The Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality. America has not yet reached its maximum potential.”

Sorry, that spin won’t work. It’s the standard issue lefty excuse. And Cuomo was a little too clear about what he said. It’s also what the left believes. Most lefties aren’t stupid enough to say it.

But the left is losing its self-control. It’s saying what it really thinks.

A generation ago, this would have been the rhetoric of a college student reading Noam Chomsky. Today it’s the mainstream Dem platform.
