“As my own death approaches, I weigh the life I have lived against what it might have been. I ask myself: Could I have been wiser? Could I have done more? When I look at my life this way from the end, I can take satisfaction that I mostly gave it my all and did what I could… It is the certainty of death that finally makes a life acceptable. When we live as fully as we can, what room is left for regret?”
David Horowitz, Mortality & Faith: Reflections on a Journey through Time
In an article that will appear later this week, I wrote that “David Horowitz first came down with cancer after 9/11. He wrote about that in ‘The End of Time’. He continued fighting cancer and writing about his experiences facing death in ‘A Point in Time: The Search for Redemption in This Life and the Next‘. He nearly died in 2015 and wrote about that in ‘You’re Going to Be Dead One Day: A Love Story’ and then collected all three together in ‘Mortality and Faith’ in 2019.”
This excerpt from that collection has David contemplate the question of his own mortality. And though he lived long after that contemplation, it is central to who he was as a writer, as a thinker and as a man.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Horowitz. You were a brave and long time fighter for the truth – and not everybody likes that. Mr. Greenfield, I appreciate all of your articles and wisdom. Will you pick up the torch?
“Number your days so that you can achieve a heart of wisdom”…………..said Jeremiah.
David Horowitz certainly did.
Radical Son is one of the great transformation stories in US history……….RIP
Yes, the book remains one of the best things I have ever read, and it definitely changed me, or, enabled me to change my thinking. I emailed him at the time, and he graciously responded. The printout of that email remains in the book as an important memory.
I am so sorry, Daniel, May his memory be for a blessing. Baruch Dayan haemet . Thank you for everything you have done, David Horowitz ❤️🔥✡️
God be with his family. He will be missed by them and many more.
May God bless David Horowitz and give comfort and peace to his family. Front Page and David’s insights have been a daily read/check-in for well over a decade, maybe even two. Mr. Horowitz will be missed.
I never met him, I read his book “Radical Son’, I listened to him on internet, on this site and others. And the sad news of his demise brought tears to my eyes – that’s how powerful David Horowitz was.
David is a giant, and he has done so much. God Bless him, and you Daniel, for everything you bring to our lives each day.
“Radical Son” was an important milestone in my intellectual growth and movement away from the left of center people. I already knew something was very wrong with Democrats continually excusing communists and those on the left despite the depravations on humanity. Their blind hatred of Israel and fawning adoration of terrorists murdering Jews caused a complete break a number of years ago and reading Mr Horowitz’s book put it all in a nice little package that was easy to digest. I’ve recommended that book on multiple occasions. Mr. Horowitz will be sorely missed in “the culture war” especially in the war radicals are waging against Jews, Israel and the western way of life.
Mr. Horowitz, Why? Why did you leave us so soon? We all know the answer to that. There is one appointment all people will face and that is the appointment with death.
I know that millions of people have been influenced by your life. Thank you for living a life that we all can inspire too.
Rest in peace David, The footsteps of the M0shiach are being heard. See you again soon.
David was a great man. His early works were crucial to helping me embrace a saner view of politics. He was one of the most sincere writers and speakers I ever saw. To a life well lived.
My condolences to the team at FPM and Mr. Horowitz’s family. May he rest in peace.
Mr. Horowitz was a gift from God. He was a voice for the voiceless and a fierce defender of the truth. I pray for his family and friends, who I’m sure are experiencing more sorrow than any of us. Amazing how one life can touch so many others. A lesson we can all learn from. We should carry that light throughout our own lives, and hopefully hear those wonderful words from a loving Father in heaven; ‘well done, good and faithful servant, enter into your rest’. May Mr. Horowitz find that rest. 🙏🕯️✝️
I never met the man or talked to the man , I’ve read most of his articles right here on FPM and this downright hurts . Godspeed to all that knew him well ..
Why do I feel tears in my heart for a gentleman I never met? And frankly only became aware of post 10-7-2023 massacre in Israel as I was seeking information that is truth and I came across FPM?
Because truth these days is so rare to find in the media and definitely David Horwitz was and will always be an icon of truth in the media! Being a lonsman is also deeply anchored in my soul’s heart! The tsunami of antisemitism post 10-7-2023 that has become fashionable and vogue that has made the wounds and losses of 10-7-2023 more egregious, truth standing up in the media is David v Goliath, and the odds against my people where YHVH has repeatedly demonstrated HIS Promises to deliver HIS People. where even this struggle, this battle, this war will be no different. Though we live daily waiting, this is what it was like and has been like for thousands of years. Hopefully we have enough experience and data to know we can never let our guard down and trust those we signed peace treaties with again! Never Again must be NEVER AGAIN!!! David Horwitz and FPM is vital in reminding us that until Yeshua returns to reign, we must be NEVER AGAIN!!!
I’ve been following this website since it started as www.slaphillary.com. David Horowitz did great things for humanity. He will be missed. Baruch daayan emes.
Heard Charlie Kirk say this morning that David Horowitz will be missed, and that he’d taught Kirk what to do, that is, how to fight for freedom. I didn’t know he’d passed. His endless advocacy for truth has taken him home to the source of all truth.
I trust that the Lord has given him a warrior’s welcome.
Horowitz was proof that one is not trapped by the life they’re born into. His transformation from a dedicated Marxist into a dominant voice for individual liberty gives me hope for mankind. May his example inspire a similar evolution in every soul who thinks there’s more to life than they’re conditioned to believe.
His was a life fully lived.
We who never knew him personally will appreciate his legacy more with the passage of time.
Well done, David Horowitz.
Rest in Peace in the Arms of the Angels.
I subscribed to the newsletter “Front Page Magazine” before there was such a thing as the internet! Always true to his mission of individual liberties free of state control, David Horowitz was a beacon of freedom! Bless his soul!
I hope it didn’t hurt when he went on. I’ve almost died more than a few times and it hurt worse than fuck. They don’t tell you about the pain in the stories. God bless him, even though he was an atheist. Atheists can go to Heaven too, right?
I love this website.
His post Ramparts writings changed my life…was a Berkeley student commie in the late 60s- mid 70’s. David enlightened me.
