Spain was supposed to be Europe’s Green Energy success story. With massive amounts of renewables in the power grid, Spain was going to save the planet.
Here’s Red Electrica, Spain’s state-owned power company, last year bragging about its renewables.
“Renewable energies generated 56% of Spain’s electricity mix in 2024
Renewable generation increased by almost 11% in a record-breaking year on two fronts: achieving the highest renewable electricity generation ever recorded and capturing its largest share since records began.”
Now, Red Electrica is trying to explain why all the lights went out.
Spain has one of the highest proportions of renewable energy – 56 per cent on average – in Europe.
And just days ago on April 16, Spain’s power grid ran entirely on renewable energy, including wind, solar and hydro power for the first time.
First you go green, then you go black.
A technological country can’t run on medieval technologies like wind and solar. They’re simply not reliable. Everyone knows that including the people shilling for them. Blackouts are not a failure, they’re supposed to set us back and force us to use less power. This is Cloward-Piven for the power grid and the misery is not a bug, it’s a feature.
Happy belated Earth Day.
The leftists in Spain are very bad news, based on some indirect experiences I had. Too bad because Spain has some very pretty girls 🙂
Solar power is not medieval. Windmills and water wheels and dogs are. There use to be dog powered rotisseries. Don’t let the renewanle energy people find that one out.
The msm was trying to blame cyberattack and Putin from the get go, but 100% ‘renewable’ is the much more likely culprit. They sure aren’t going to admit to that though, or that a ‘green’ grid requires a conventional backup capable of handling the whole load.
Spain’s overload took out part of the French and Belgian grids when it went down. Europe’s is intertwined likes like the North American power grid. An overload in on country usually cascades into others. The elites, of course, have backup generators to run their homes, but green was never about them anyway.. It’ll be interesting to see how the serfs, and especially the ‘refugees’ react. The ‘refugees’ will boogie over to France, and other EU countries before they sit in the dark.
I’m also thinking: this is just the beginning of the net zero power outages—which will have ramifications of some kind—even on a population that’s inclined to be complacent and go with whatever the official mainstream party line is.
Surely the root cause was Trump deporting criminal illegals.
The left is switching to solar power while at the same time planning to blot out the sun. Yet people still vote for them.
Life is hard. It is much harder when you are stupid.
My head swims and my stomach turns at the thought of such reckless, arrogant behavior.
Green energy has a history of failure.
Here in Texas, we found out the hard way in February of 2021. Turns out ERCOT had grifted sizable “green” crap via leftist demands behind the scenes.
When peak hour gaps are filled with models that rely entirely on chance (clouds blocking sun; wind still), the results were over 100 lives lost & $130 billion in losses.
Both Texas & Spain have one thing in common that guaranteed failure – they were government run. The Spanish gov’t owns the system & ERCOT is staffed by gov’t lobbyists & grifters.
A private company can be fired. Gov’t public employees & politicians don’t give a shit. They don’t have to.
“A private company can be fired. Gov’t public employees & politicians don’t give a shit. They don’t have to.”
You’re preaching to the choir my friend. I interpret that last sentence as meaning: they (government employees) don’t work for used, we work for them.
Ronald Reagan once said that the nearest thing to eternity we’ll ever know is a government program. A corollary to that would be: the only permanent jobs are government jobs.
From the womb to the tomb, the gubmint “jobs” us up the wazoo 24/7/365 and we the people get the “privilege” of paying for it. Ain’t that a flip!!
Would help to enumerate some of the things “grifted ” on
Simply saying wind turbines doesn’t make the case..
Given the the risks or whatever relying on wind for 20% instead of 10% could be considered malfeasance. whereas 10% is just fine.
So your case is?
My case is flaming woke shitheads on ERCOT steering us to go super green after 2011 using subsidies.
Too many on the board weren’t from here. One in Canada. Two from Michigan. All fixated on their green fetish & inflated salaries (rivaling the famed grift of Bell, California public employees.)
They were paid $7.5 million (CEO Magness making a jaw-dropping $876,334. Lowest was $200,00.) Not bad for 20 idiots hell-bent on skyrocketing our dependency on failed green from 2000 megawatts to 10,000.
God forbid they buttress our existing structure, like they could have. (Oil is a natural product; it’s OK to use it.)
As like other gifts, such as Solyndra, our green bullshit failed us. (More than 34 other “green” companies that took taxpayer subsidies, failed during the B. Hussein hustle.)
They literally want to send the West back to the Christian Dark Ages – a world lit only by fire.
What better place to start than Spain, home of the Christian Inquisition.
The Inquisition was in response to a 5th column. It did not come out of nowhere.
The Spanish Inquisition was indeed a shameful thing.
It was, however, miniscule compared to islamic autocratic brutal submission . . . that still not only exists, but flourishes.
BTW. Christianity gendered, at the least, encouraged innovation. For someone intelligent as yourself, it’s juvenile to corelate the Dark Ages with Christianity as somehow it’s cause.
The “dark ages” were endemic to all (save the Chinese, whom the Judeo-Christian West left far behind.)
Green is the new black.
They like the Green all right with lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on it
Praise The LORD President Donald J Trump was reelected for the 3rd time!
We were on a deep dive to hell and G-D heard our prayers!!! And we turned out to vote to overwhelm the cheat!
The key point here that all us little people must understand is that the powerful, wealthy and elite will not be affected in the slightest by the policies and misery they force on us. Oh, the peasants will have electricity, .just on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and a few holidays thrown in. The rest of the time, they will just have to make due ….to save the planet…or something. The powerful, wealthy and elite will have all the electricity they want and all the luxuries for that matter.
Putting a whole Nation under Green Energy is like finding water in your rowboat and drilling a hole to let it run out
Right on. The entire world became healthier, better fed, and had increasing access to medical care as electrification happened. Take it away, and we’re back to the Stone Age. An important lesson for any strategic foe (read China or Russia, or even North Korea) who wants to dominate us.
I recall an article a few years back on the absolute failure in delivering green jobs in spain. I guess rather than fix the problem, they’ve just doubled-down on it. Green kills…
Proof the Spaniards are civilized. New York City not:
A NYC blackout occurred on July 13–14, 1977.
It lasted for 25 hours. Most of New York City was without power.
Blackout was triggered by lightning striking key transmission lines, which led to widespread outages.
This event resulted in significant civil unrest, including looting, riots, and over a thousand fires across the city. Nine Months later city hospitals were overrun with births, 30% more. No one planned for it.
Five years & 9 months later, a crisis hit the schools. No one planned for that either.
I would suggest Spain/Portugal achieved net zero except there were likely a lot of small, dirty, diesel generators (small on an industrial power production scale) running for things like hospitals, telephone switches, etc (and the elite of course).
So how much perishable food will be thrown away?
Archimedes used solar power to sink Roman ships 🙂
