Is Donald Trump really preparing to recognize a Palestinian state? The news hit like a thunderbolt on Saturday, amid an avalanche of stories claiming that Trump is angry with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is changing course from his previous wholehearted support of Israel’s defense against Hamas and the other jihadist entities that are determined to destroy it. As is so often the case in such matters, however, there was decidedly less to the story than there initially appeared to be.
The Jerusalem Post picked up the story Saturday from the American news agency The Media Line. The distancing from the claim began in the headline: “Gulf diplomatic source claims Trump will announce US recognition of Palestinian state.” As the story unfolded, the claim became even more tenuous.
The assertion that Trump would recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming Gulf-US summit was attributed to “a Gulf diplomatic source, who declined to be named or disclose his position.” This anonymous individual claimed that “President Donald Trump will issue a declaration regarding the State of Palestine and American recognition of it, and that there will be the establishment of a Palestinian state without the presence of Hamas.”
Just three paragraphs later, however, The Media Line quoted a person who didn’t decline to be named, denying the whole thing: “Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, a former Gulf diplomat, told The Media Line, ‘I don’t expect it to be about Palestine. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan have not been invited. They are the two countries closest to Palestine, and it would be important for them to be present at any event like this.’”
So what we end up with is one anonymous source indulging in speculation about what Trump will do at the Gulf summit, and someone else denying that speculation. The pro-Israel activist known on X as Brian of London said of the story that it was “Completly [sic] irresponsible for @Jerusalem_Post to run it and especially with that headline. The internet will go crazy over this s**t quote to a 5th tier news wire which is even contradicted by a NAMED source a few paragraphs down.” And indeed, online Israel-haters immediately began celebrating.
That was just one of a flood of stories over the past week that claimed that there was a breach between Trump and Israel. A Hebrew-language report in Israel Hayom bore this headline: “Sources close to the president: ‘Trump is disappointed with Netanyahu and has decided to advance steps in the Middle East without him.’” The claim was attributed once again to people who declined to be named, and who were identified as “two senior sources close to the president.”
On Friday, Trump’s ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, responded on X: “It’s reckless & irresponsible for press to allege that @POTUS and @IsraeliPM are not getting along. Bibi has spent more time with @realDonaldTrump than I have in past 3 months & I’m his ambassador! The relationship between US & Israel remains STRONG!”
These stories and similar ones have been circulating amid a highly volatile situation. The news went out worldwide that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had canceled his trip to Israel, which was trumpeted far and wide as further evidence of a US/Israel rift, but then it turned out that Trump had asked Hegseth to accompany him to the Gulf summit, and the trip to Israel will take place later. A Friday Washington Post story concluded with this: “Huckabee denied reports that Trump was backing away from Israel. ‘I think the answer to that is an emphatic no,’ he said.”
There seems, however, to be a concerted effort to create a rift even if there isn’t one. Or those who are responsible for these false reports may be engaging in Lyndon Johnson’s old tactic. During a rough campaign, Johnson is said to have told his aides to spread a false story about his opponent. When they told him that the story wasn’t true, he replied, “I know it isn’t. I just want to hear him deny it.”
This wouldn’t be even close to the first time that the leftist establishment media has ginned up a controversy where there wasn’t one. At this point, there is no reason to doubt Huckabee’s statement that the US/Israel alliance is as strong as ever. Whatever happens at the Gulf summit, it is almost certain to bring yet more confirmation of the fact that the establishment media cannot be trusted.
Hard to say what’s going on. For sure the left cannot be trusted in how they lie and manipulate public opinion. That said, there are things Trump and others in his adminstration have said and done that don’t exactly engender a feeling of confidence. Witkoff is a disaster. Naive, at best. Trump’s accepting a luxury plane from Qatar to use as a new Air Force on is being pathetic. It also seems he’s negotiated w/Hamas independent from Israel, which is his right w/respect to the last remaining American hostage, but it seems Netanyahu may be frustrated that Trump is making a deal that only releases one hostage. Etc. I suppose time will tell. I hope things will remain steady because Trump has been the most pro-Israel president we have ever had.
And as an aside: G-d bless Robert Spencer, a tireless voice sounding the alarm of the grave threats before us if only the American public and those in leadership positions would listen.
I would be interested to hear Mr. Spencer’s response to the list of problematic issues related to the topic of this article, that’s published in a piece called “Honey, he’s had enough of you” at Times of Israel. It’s a list of facts, not spin, and they are on their face, disturbing.
In addition to the numerous items listed at the end of the article referenced above, I am now reading that Witkoff is said to have told hostage families that Israel is prolonging the war needlessly and that the focus needs to be on a deal. Granted, this is a report, but given Witkoff’s history of idiocy, I can’t dismiss it outright.
Then (and bad news is moving fast) there is now talk of Trump providing sanctions relief on Syria to give them a “fresh start.” (Was this part of the deal to get the last American hostage released?) We all know Trump is a raving narcissist and doubtless world leaders know this as well. Is he being charmed by evil actors? It’s hard to say, but the direction of things in his administration is shifting with respect to the Middle East, and not in a good direction. Is he so eager to be the peace president that he is blinded by the fact that there is evil in this world and it’s not a question of “forever wars” vs peace, but a matter of intelligence and decision-making to ensure one’s survival.
(And none of this even addresses his sudden decision to negotiate with Iran, as if Iran can be trusted. Are we headed for an Obama-style deal with a regime that wants to destroy us and all of western civilization?)
You are Spot On Sarah!👍
Yes, Trump is breaking with Israel; that’s obvious. Jews hate been defeated by a coalition of the Muslim Brotherhood and Scottish Rite/Joseph Campbell types in the UK. The fall of Israel is just a matter of time.
Consider this amazing statement:
Numbers 23:21 “He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.”
That was “time past,” but it will be true again when Daniel’s 70th week resumes.
Zechariah 2:8 “For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you (Israel) toucheth the apple of his eye.”
“Time past,” see Ephesians 2:11-12.
WRONG! Israel will Always Be!
Jordan IS a Palestinian state but they refuse to entertain the gazan savages.
Jordan is an Arab state, There are no Palestinians, not State, no official language, no capitol. Using the language of the enemy just promotes their cause.
No Arab state wants the Gazan savages.
Yes, it’s obviously Minitrue Media bullshit.
Hopefully, yes. We don’t need to be dragged into wars by BiBI or anyone else. Trump is angry the way BiBI went behind his back with plans to engage Iran.
I’m not for losing American lives and treasure for other countries wars. Done. The government of Israel has treated the Palestinians like the Jews were treated in the Holocaust.
Go after Hamas? Yes. But bombing areas where women and children are? Absolutely not. I know many on here are racist and blindly support Israel. Not all Palestinians are bad people and not all Israelis are good.
Time to let Israel fight their own wars and cut off our endless money supply to many of these countries
Israel fights his own wars you moron Jew hater.
Israel fights its own wars? I know how well versed you are on geopolitics (LOL) but I guess you aren’t aware of the 18 billion in military aid we give to Israel, genius. Newsflash for the low IQ people: Israel is no longer dragging the US into supporting its wars.
We know you are a racist and hate brown people and have no problem with innocent civilians being killed by the IDF. Unfortunately for you Trump see’s it differently.
Now compare the money the US gives to a functional ally at war with the world’s mortal enemies, with the money we give to Egypt, who is FILLED with our mortal enemies.
Do see why there might be a difference? 2023: $1.3B to Egypt, who should have gotten SQUAT, vs $17 B to a ally at war with Islam, who should have gotten more, if Israel haters were not running the Administration.
Bombing women and children? Why are the brave Hamas fighters hiding among them? Apparently you can’t keep up with current events, like Oct 7th. (LOL)
What is laughable is how you post Jew hating B.S. that reads like it came from the Reichstag circa 1940, and claiming how well versed you are on geopolitics, would be taken seriously by your ilk but it seems like your ilk doesn’t have the stones to step up and support you.
“The government of Israel has treated the Palestinians like the Jews were treated in the Holocaust?”
Where are the ovens?
Maybe attacking Israel on October 7th wasn’t such a great idea after all. The very Muslims that were celebrating that attack had much in common with the Muslims around the world celebrating 9-11. President Bush saying it was a “peaceful religion” was the height of political correctness.
They are digging the dead body of babies, children and women from the ruble as we speak. A different death than ovens. But I’m sure your good with it.
Well, Sebastian, after viewing the people on the street beating the bodies of captives with pipes on Oct 7, and cheering their deaths, I’d say show me civilians who are not pro-Hamas, pro-terrorism, teaching their children hate, and not complicit in the world-wide Jewish genocide you and they all so desperately desire .
Keep your righteous indignation in an area where the sun can’t reach it. You are either pro-Israel or you are a terrorist supporter.
I have bad news for you Sebby. Biden and the left re no longer in power. Normal people are. And they support Israel. It’s amusing how you basically kept quiet for 4 years when Herr Dementio was pretending to run things.
From the ‘ruble’? I had no idea the Russians were involved.
“We know you are a racist and hate brown people” you are so stupid I bet you think the brown people actually like you because you stand up for them.
It’s called WAR! Hamas invaded Israel and after their psychopathic terror 1200 had been beheaded, mutilated, raped, tortured, murdered set on fire while alive, babies put in ovens, in the most horrific, malevolent manner. 251 innocent people were captured and hauled into the subterranean darkness of the tunnels. Gazans cheered in ecstasy as the captured were taunted and further humiliated women thrown in the backs of trucks the blood from their being raped evident on their clothing. The women of Gaza cheered as their sons shared their disgusting slaughter of those in their homes being savagely brutalized.
Those still in Gaza can leave because Hamas and Gaza should become rubble. Gazans are colonial invaders who are ARABS with neither rights nor history in Israel .
You are a sycophant of evil and a coward. Those who start wars need to understand that whining and crying and playing the victim after you’ve invaded a country is far too late. Take your sympathies elsewhere since your regard and value for life is obviously conditional and representative of the ease with which you are easily indoctrinated to believe such hideous BS
Sebastian you don’t know what you are talking about! Israel has been overly nice to the Palestinians while defending themselves. Giving ample warnings prior to strikes. Do your homework, Buddy.
So we’re speculating because the actions are not matching the words.
Two suggestions to unify actions with words:
1) It’d be significant if the word ‘ceasefire’ would be replaced by ‘unconditional surrender’ and be exclusively applied to and required of all the Hamas ‘people’ and their fellow Gaza ‘people’ who are their supportive, proud parents, spouses, women proud to conceive a baby for jihad, grandparents, siblings, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, teachers, colleagues, neighbors and co-‘civilian’ captors of hostages who imprison the kidnapped in their ‘homes’, which camouflage tunnel entrances and are weapon storehouses.
The only side that must cease its fire in this war against Israel is GazaHamas. Hamas is the life of Gaza. Hamas is organic and intrinsic to all of Gaza. It is Gaza’s DNA. The only statements that refute this fact are lies. Demand total, unconditional surrender of HamasGaza. That will clarify the situation; and will bring about, speedily, a truly definitive end of the war; and it is the only way to end killing and dying. This requires a total shift in attitude towards Israel and her enemies. After 10/7, the war waged against Israel can never again end in a ‘ceasefire’.
2) Accompanying that shift in attitude is the acceptance of the fact that Hamas and Gaza are one and the same. Don’t separate Hamas from Gaza. Hamas is Gaza. Gaza is Hamas. Stop making the false distinction. Don’t feed the terror death cult of martyrdom. Supposedly half of Gazans are choosing life and want to leave Gaza. For the others, even though they rather die, those Gazans must be removed from their present location because they want to kill the Jews. They say it. They do it. What gives them the right to get away with that?! Leave the Jewish people and Israel alone. History and the Torah establish the land and people of Israel. Accept that reality and get over this noxious resentment, toxic jealousy or whatever excuse a warped hateful mind makes up. Stop forcing absurd concessions on Israel. Save the lives of terror supporting Gazans by transporting them to the other 50+ Muslim countries in the world, even if they don’t want their lives saved.
And do it now. It won’t take long.
This is the reason I stopped tuning into the local news, legacy media and so-called cable news main sleaze media – as well as newspapers – I parse the news online to get closer to the fact.
President Trump is not changing his ally to Israel
Trump is absolutely making shifts that are quite steady at this point and it’s deeply disturbing. This isn’t spin, it’s facts. Mark Levin just put out a great show addressing much of this, as he has been. We on the right need to stop having an automatic response to everything that blames the media (who often deserve blame) and absolve Trump and his administration. He is screwing up big time in the ME, trying to work out a deal with Iran (as if a deal with Iran would have any meaning), on the verge of lifting sanctions on Syria to give them a “fresh start,” legitimizing Qatar, reaching a “truce” with the Houthis w/o requiring they stop attacking Israel, etc. Sadly, I could go on. I have no idea what’s going on with Trump (who I supported and voter for in every election he ran in), but there’s a trend and it ain’t good.
Look below for an explanation of the game plan.
I have to be fair. Under Biden I could see where actions did not match words. For the first 100 days, I could see where words were backed up by actions. Recently, Trump actions and decisions are betraying his words. I’m hoping this will correct, but right now am very disappointed. Witkof is a disaster and Trump appointed him. So, it may be Witkof is a disaster, but Trump is certainly not rebuking him on some of this disappointing posturing.
Forget rebuke. Trump should fire him.
Thanks for the clarification, Mr. Spencer. It makes no sense at all
that President Trump wants a Palestinian state. That would be
extremely dangerous as Israel has now come to realize.
Look what happened when Israel pulled out of Gaza so that there
wasn’t a single Jew left there. Hamas took it over with the support
of the Gazan Palestinian people. The eventual result was the worse
carnage ever befalling the Jews since the Holocaust: the October
7th massacre.
The Left – the Globalists – the sworn enemies of Israel and America
will never stop sowing doubt and confusion against Trump via their
propaganda arm, the mainstream media.
Fake news concocted by Jew Haters
Trump is going to support Israel no matter what the lying media does. Israel will get all the help they need.
what ever the mainstream media is reporting, the opposite reality is that it is opposing the truth.
It’s not just the far left. As President Trump seeks to rebalance the Arab world in favor of the Sunni branch of Islam favored in Saudi Arabia to offset the Shia mullahs who hold Iran captive with his current Arabian initiative, the sisters of perpetual war on both sides of the aisle in America are scandalized. They will say and do anything to upend Trump’s peace initiative. The Israelis know that, when Iran has the capability to deliver a nuclear weapon, it will be too late to save the only democracy in the region, so Israel will strike before that date. But, until that date, they will let Trump and his team do their best to put the Irani nuclear genie back in the bottle without open conflict. Trump had the mullahs on their heels in his first term, and it is reasonable to believe he can do it again. Get a beer and pop some corn. It’s going to get very interesting, and nothing Chuck Schumer or Mark Levin will have any effect on President Trump’s plans.
I don’t know if he’s breaking with Israel, but he’s starting to break with America. The latest bad news in what has become a string of truly absurd actions on the part of his administration is that while on his tour through the ME, he’s meeting with the terrorist leader of Syria. It is increasingly difficult to find excuses for his behavior. It’s moving in a dangerous direction.
I don’t know, but it feels like Trump is throwing Israel under the bus right now.. If he returns to Washington without a promise to create a Palestinian State, allows Israel to finish the job, and has a plan to take on Iran, I will be very appreciative.
”Palestine” has never been an actual country unless somebody can inform me of the name of the last Prime Minister or President of that fictional country, what currency did they use, tell me a tradition they had, music, Art, anything at all…
Heres another clue for them all…
The first Flag of that region had a Star of David in the middle of the ”Palestine” Flag..
So why are all these morons screaming about free free a country that has never been imprisoned or even existed…
Gaza was set up as their so called Pali State just as Jordan was but the King didn’t want them ruling his Desert Kingdom and the Ham Ass pricks took over Gaza after all the Israeli Jews left and then they destroyed all the Flower Green Houses and the successful International Business created after the Israelis left leaving hundreds of Gazans without a source of income…. Great way to get support from the local population….
Its understandable why ALL the other islamic Nations in the region do not want these GAZANS to come into their Desert Kingdoms… If the people have been ”starving” since last Oct then methinks they would all be dead by now, if there is a genocide then how come there are more people in Gaza today than when it was first formed, if Israel is an Apartheid State then why do they have Arab muslims as Judges, Lawyer, CEOs, Generals in the Army and even, until recently, an actual ARAB as the CEO of The State BANK of Israel…
Inquiring minds want to know.
