The passing of David Horowitz and now Michael Ledeen once again showed the media at its worst. Obituaries used to be sacred, now they’re just another means of media character assassination. A way for the media to reinforce the negative image of a public figure that its operatives created and intend to fix in the public consciousness through ceaseless historical revisionism. The same media that could dub the head of ISIS an austere religious scholar doubles down on hating its opponents. These posthumous campaigns of defamation don’t and can’t harm the dead, they only show the media for what it is, a propaganda hate machine dedicated to the total destruction of the living, the dead and anyone who stands in its way.
That’s why history is so difficult. Even contemporary sources come from both hostile and favorable observers. How to tell which is accurate centuries or millennia later?
A goal of the left is always to assault the senses, sensibilities and the sacred in order to foster hatred, tension, division and demoralization in society. They defame the dead for the same reason they make a proud public display of drag queens rubbing their crotches on children at public libraries or trot out women to celebrate abortions. Older democrats I know will say this isn’t happening, the younger ones are so debased that they cheer it on.
The media is foundational to civilization and protected by our foundational law. The reporter’s sole aim should be the dissemination of facts. The abandonment of this core duty is nothing less than treachery. Yes, some may be so stupid as to fail to apprehend the difference between fact and opinion, but that stupidity should be weeded out of the newsroom and never shunted off to editorial because editorial commentary requires more acumen.
