I recently recorded an episode of The Right Take podcast with our very own Mark Tapson discussing the release of my new book, ‘Domestic Enemies: The Founding Fathers’ Fight Against The Left’.
(Subscribe to Mark’s podcast here.)
Domestic Enemies does contain untold stories of pivotal moments in American history, but it’s also very much today’s story. As I told Mark, my original inspiration for the book came out of our very own ‘annus horribilis’, our year of hell, 2020, and seeing the events reflected and refracted from the earliest days of our nation’s history.
So much of the sense of helplessness that a lot of us suffer from comes from the mistaken beliefs that…
- The Left is a new threat that we never had to deal with before
- It’s an unstoppable force that is perpetually gaining strength
- Our past has nothing to teach us about how to fight it or survive it.
None of these things, as I discuss in, ‘Domestic Enemies, is actually true.
We’ve had to struggle against the Left throughout the entirety of our history. The Left was there trying to bring down George Washington and stop the adoption of the Constitution.
It was there acting as agents of the French Revolution to subvert and take over America.
We’re not faced with a new threat but a very old one.
Consider this letter from Abigail Adams.
“France has setled her plan of subjugating America: her system is fully known,” First Lady Abigail Adams wrote, describing French “Agents and Emissaries, whom with truth & reason she [France] bosts of having thickly scatterd through our Country, saving her Principles, her depravaty of Manners, her Atheism in every part of the united States” so that “she will seduce the mind & sap the foundation of our strongest pillars, Religion & Government.”
These are not visionary Ideas of future events, they are now active. They have already proceeded to a most allarming height,” she warned.
“If the progress of Jacobinism is to be arrested at all, it is by fighting it,” the added message read. “And if there be a Nation on Earth capable of going the necessary lengths, and making the proper Sacrifices to stop its course,—it must be one that is already possesed of substantial Liberty, that knows how to appreciate it, & how to distinguish between it, and that Sort of Liberty which France is trying to propogate throughout the World.”
Apart from the differences in spelling and terminology (swap Marxism for Jacobinism and the Soviet Union for France), these sentiments are very familiar.
We’re not facing a new war, but a 200-plus-year leftist war against America.
It’s a war we’ve been fighting from our very founding. And it’s a war we can win.
Meanwhile Biden the UN,DNC,M.S. Media CFR Etc. welcomes the Invaders and they sign up as Democrat Voters and Supporters the Ultimate form of Treason
I sure hope it’s a war we can win. Right now we’re losing badly because we don’t fight back.
The Roman Republic lasted at least 464 years and it was a civilization long before it began in 509 BC. The Roman Empire lasted a whopping 1,480 years of dominance as the apex of human achievement and civilization. That’s a total of 1,944 years for guys like me who went to government schools.
America is only 248 years old and we’re on the verge of being degenerated into something that’s America in name only, like Egypt is Egypt in name only. As if that islamic shithole has any connection to the land of the Pharaohs, which was magnificent. (Yeah, yeah, Moses had a few problems with them, I know.)
Can America really last as America instead of just as a name? How? I personally think the current conditions of humanity are so different from those of the ancient world that we’ve reached the point where we need an American Caesar and empire after only 248 years as a republic.
I agree. Nations require ethnos — natives who share history, language, heritage and culture.
Empires require citizens whose nationalities are subsumed into a babbling barbarian Babylon ruled by an iron-fisted emperor whose decrees are translated into all languages. Para espanol, oprima cinco.
Nevertheless, Daniel Greenfield’s optimism is beautiful. I wonder whether we can hope as he does in our own time. The French enlightenment’s exaltation of human reason to the place of God was and is difficult – the very thing Abigail Adams recognized. Now, the addition of so many alien cultures screaming for their “rights” to live among us and be showered with free everything forever is very different from anything Abigail Adams experienced or imagined. How can we blame them? For them, “freedom” means license to live upon our largesse, and eventually upon the very substance of our lives and heritage.
Even the western European French stumbled when they installed the goddess Reason in Notre Dame. They rejected true freedom and embraced radical license and individualism without restraint of God and king.
“But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked— You grew fat, thick, and sleek— Then he abandoned God who made him, and treated the Rock of his salvation with wicked foolishness.” Deuteronomy 32:15. That says it all. We forget the source of blessing and peace and think we can do as we please, unmoored from the law and from the LORD.
Yes, we’ve “strayed from the path,” that’s for sure.
The ruling class and oligarchy of America care very little about US citizens
Mexico invades and murders more than 100,000 US citizens every year,
and the American ruling class just blows it off.
Depraved psychopathic murderous berserk violent Islamic Saudi and Qatari “Royal” Family scum control the chokepoint of the world oil and energy markets.
and the American ruling class and oligarchy do not give a crap.
Islam and Mexico are America’s and US citizens’ greatest enemies today by virtue of actual INVASIONS of millions of illegal aliens, and the murder every year of 100,000 US citizens by Mexican manufactured drugs/fentanyl.
Another ten years of complacency by America’s ruling class and oligarchy regarding the Islamic and Mexican threats will find America effectively transformed (ala Obama) into just another real third world crap hole.
I had until recently the silly delusion that American citizens would fight back. I did like cowboy movies and Charles Bronson movies.
Well, the lights have come up. The movie is over. Americans are no more heroes than people in any other defunct society.
It was nice believing it though.
Just started reading your book. I can see it’s a very important book. I had no understanding of the corrosive effect the French revolution had on early America, and I have to wonder why I wasn’t taught any of that in school or through popular culture. Just some introduction to the underground activities of Aaron Burr would cast those times in a new light. I recently read a history of the Enlightenment and was introduced to the underworld of secret societies in 18th Century Europe and the enigma of the coffee houses where radical ideas bubbled over. Only the most sketchy connection was made to early America.
Thanks and congrats for connecting the dots. I look forward to reading it all.
Thank you. One reason is that American history was revamped in the 20th century to follow the Marxist paradigm of class warfare, oppressed/oppressors etc so people tend to be taught history in terms of economic, racial conflicts between groups.
Hardly anyone has imbibed an American history not touched by this stuff.
BTW you’ll find the secret societies addressed in Chapter 5.
