The days of wine and song, hope and change are gone. We’re in the land of tan suits, endless golfing and no strategies.
Americans are more than twice as likely to say they “strongly disapprove” (39%) of President Barack Obama’s job performance as they are to say they “strongly approve” (17%). The percentage of Americans who strongly disapprove of Obama has increased over time, while the percentage who strongly approve has dropped by almost half.
In the first year of Obama’s presidency, the percentages of Americans who had strong views about the job he was doing were essentially tied, but the strongly negative responses now significantly outweigh the strongly positive ones. The largest segment of Americans today, 39%, strongly disapprove of Obama’s job performance, while 14% moderately disapprove. Another 27% moderately approve, while 17% strongly approve.
The most obvious symptom of this has been the abandonment of the hysterical shrill defenses of Obama that became a part of American life during his first term.
These have been reduced to random bursts of hatred and mockery, but there is no more enthusiasm for Obama the man. That part of American history is… history.
Even Obama’s bases are no longer making a strong showing. Yes, black voters will vote for Obama even if he nukes Detroit. But they aren’t particularly enthusiastic about him either.
The right hates Obama. The center feels alienated. And the left feels let down.
No wonder Obama is trotting around in a tan suit and violating the Constitution without paying attention to what anyone says. The country has lost faith in him and he is just phoning it in.
