Bad, but inevitable.
The Democrats have been tilting leftward and that takes the party further into the camp of the terrorists. The number of Jewish Democrats with any meaningful connection to Israel or Judaism continues to decline. Antisemitism is rising within the party and so are other flavors of extremism.
The Obama administration was the most anti-Israel administration since Carter or Bush I. The Trump administration was linked to Israel which led to even more smears. The media has always been biased, but its hostility to the Jewish State only continues to intensify. Celebrities like John Legend have been enlisted in the campaign to bash Israel. Anti-Semitism and hostility to Israel have been baked into Black Lives Matter and virtually every identity politics movement. Democrat Squad members have also been pushing this, as did insurgent socialist candidates, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. The Islamic population has also been rising. Combine all of that together and these numbers are depressing and unsurprising.
Republicans’ support for Israel is consistent across all Gallup questions, with 80% sympathizing more with the Israelis than the Palestinians, a solid majority wanting the U.S. to put more pressure on the Palestinians in negotiations and fewer than half favoring Palestinian statehood.
Nearly two-thirds of Democrats view Israel favorably, but two-thirds also favor Palestinian statehood, less than half sympathize more with Israel in the dispute, and the majority want the U.S. to put more pressure on Israel.
Specifically, 38% of Democrats side more with the PLO than with Israel. compared to 43% who side more with Israel.
53% want to see more pressure on Israel and only 29% want to see more pressure on the PLO.
But outside the binary, independents tend to sympathize with Israel, and don’t tend to support pressure on Israel.
