The UN claims that it was brought into being to promote peace. In reality, the UN creates far more conflict than peace. And here’s a ridiculous case in point.
One of the weapons in the global warming playbook has been to encourage third world countries to blame first world countries for the weather and demand compensation for their floods and assorted natural disasters. Now the UN is encouraging actual lawsuits.
A landmark decision by a top UN court has cleared the way for countries to sue each other over climate change, including over historic emissions of planet-warming gases.
The ICJ is considered the world’s highest court and it has global jurisdiction. Lawyers have told BBC News that the opinion could be used as early as next week, including in national courts outside of the ICJ.
Campaigners and climate lawyers hope the landmark decision will now pave the way for compensation from countries that have historically burned the most fossil fuels and are therefore the most responsible for global warming.
Judge Iwasawa Yuji also said that if countries do not develop the most ambitious possible plans to tackle climate change this would constitute a breach of their promises in the Paris Agreement.
He added that broader international law applies, which means that countries which are not signed up to the Paris Agreement – or want to leave, like the US – are still required to protect the environment, including the climate system.
This is a helpful reminder that the US needs to leave the UN and the entire globalist system before we’re entangled and subjected to penalties being invented by a global court and signed off on by a Democrat administration. If you think taxes are bad now, imagine when we’re considered to be legally obligated to pay amounts that make our past USAID spending look like a visit to the 99 cent store.
I like the 99 cents stores! Not everything costs t 99 cents since the Alzheimer Joe days but it’s still cheaper than other stores.
They had one of those 99 cents stores nearby when I was a kid. I only went inside once, but it was a clever idea, but now a dollar is worth a dime, if that. Still prognosticators all over the world are forecasting the collapse of the dollar. The only problem is that other governments and currencies are even more irresponsible and worthless. Who wants to invest in the ruble?
Good lesson about inflation. I understood that even when I was a kid for some reason. I was in France when they were converting old Francs to new Francs. 500 old Francs = 5 new Francs. Even as a kid it was perfectly clear to me what was going on for some reason. My poor Mom, unfortunately, never understood inflation. A quarter was worth something when she was a girl, so she thought it was still worth something, so that was our allowance 🙂
I was jealous of my friend who got a dollar for his allowance 🙂
His grampa (and father) were successful businessmen. I can still see his grampa’s pick 1950s Cadillac parked on our baseball field when he visited 🙂
All the successful businessmen back then drove Cadillacs. My Dad had one too, but switched to Thunderbirds when they came out (more his style 🙂
Funny that you mentioned quarters.
That’s how much I got for shoveling off people’s walkways and cars when I was seven and how much of an “allowance” my step father gave me and my brother when we were nine and eight. I bought a lot of Ding Dongs and other sweets with those quarters. I was seven. You can’t expect a kid that young to spend money wisely. I spent it on what I liked. 🙂
I spent mine on Bireley’s Orange Soda on the way home from school 🙂
I used to buy “apple Beer” from the corner store when I lived in Milwaukee WI. I don’t think it was real beer but maybe it was. those Eastern European immigrants used to sell me real beer when I went over there for my stepfather. They were right to trust me because I never drank any of it. I was only seven and eight so I wasn’t really thinking of delinquency. Different days. The early 70s.
I remember my step dad gave me a swig of beer once and I thought it tasted terrible. I’ll give him credit though, he didn’t let me drink a whole bottle.
My grandparents drove Cadillacs, but my father bought the Thunderbird when he came into his own. It had round windows in the back seat.
Maybe back then the quarters were still silver. If you had kept them, they might actually be worth something. My older brother was a big saver, even as a pre-pubescent child, and he kept his allowance quarters. He has a lot of those and silver dollars today.
My grandmother who was very conservative and lived thru the Depression had a drawer full of silver dollars that she showed me once 🙂
If I remember correctly, the quarters minted before 1963 were silver. I could be wrong. When I was 15 in high school I buffed some up in my arts and crafts class to make them shiny and sold them to a jewelry shop. I would do just about anything to earn money when I was a kid. Back then you had to be 16 to get a real job in CA. Once I turned 16, I became a wage slave until I retired last year. Age 61. No way was I going to work until I’m 64. 62 is old enough.
Pink Cadillac, not pick Cadillac. Google has the most horrible AI editing all my posts, and I can’t figure out how to turn it off.
Google screwed you again! I hate it just as much as you do.
Excellent analysis, thanks Daniel !!!!!!!
If they were honest, the climate alarmists would admit that they are not working feverishly to hold down global temperatures — they would acknowledge that they are instead consumed with the goal of holding down capitalism and establishing a global welfare state.
Have doubts? Then listen to the words of former United Nations climate official Ottmar Edenhofer:
“One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with the environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole,” said Edenhofer, who co-chaired the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change working group on Mitigation of Climate Change from 2008 to 2015.
So what is the goal of environmental policy?
“We redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy,” said Edenhofer. For those who want to believe that maybe Edenhofer just misspoke and doesn’t really mean that, consider that a little more than five years ago he also said that “the next world climate summit in Cancun is actually an economy summit during which the distribution of the world’s resources will be negotiated.”
Mad as they are, Edenhofer’s comments are nevertheless consistent with other alarmists who have spilled the movement’s dirty secret. Last year, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, made a similar statement.
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said in anticipation of last year’s Paris climate summit.
“This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”
And there you have it, climate communism right up front.
The economic development model that has raised a greater proportion of the population out of poverty than any other model in existence, especially communism, which shoves a massive amount of the population into poverty.
A Japanese judge-figures. In Japan they have a word for people like this called “heiwa-boke”. It literally means peace stupid. My in-laws can’t stand them. Good news with the Sanseito picking up seats in the recent election.
So how will the UN enforce their World King Judges decision – send in UN troops to confiscate $$ from other countries governments. Please do China first and see how that works out for them.
China would be exempt in their world view.
It’s an advisory ruling meant to create animosity and victimhood based on a theory. Lots of those around today.
So, who does the USA sue for all the FLOOD DAMAGES?? How much more waste and CORRUPTION are we going to FUND? It’s obvious to anyone not benefiting directly from the UN scam that the UN is a corrupt scam!! I do hope that PRESIDENT TRUMP turns his attention to the UN and directs Mr. Walz to inform the UN that the USA will begin it’s official withdrawal from the UN and ALL FUNDING and serve notice that the UN should be exploring a new LOCATION for it’s HQ! Well, that is if Sen. Paul doesn’t delay further or derail confirmation hearings!
The Useless Nations encouraging frivolous and stupid Lawsuits in case of a Monsoon or Hurricane this is what you get from these bunch of terrorists supporting forgein Tyrants and Dictators
I’ve experienced the Monsoon. It’s annoying. It’s like going swimming with your clothes on.
GET US OUT of the United Nations. Visit jbs.org/un.
Like Mark Levin found, somebody sues you over climate change, they have to prove you did something
and exactly how much. Even Michael Mann, using faked Anglia University climate “data”, couldn’t do that. If you and Greta are your experts, you are totally screwed. Bring it on. Show us the evidence…..crickets?
Not at The Hague, unfortunately, that Court rules on feels not evidence.
The “United Nations” should change its name to “United Idiots”! It is THE SUN that causes ALL Weather, not man’s “mad” scrambling to eliminate Gerbil Farts from the Environment. MAN can do NOTHING to “Change” Climate! NOT! ONE! DAMN! THING! The CHUTZPAH!
