Looking back at Pearl Harbor is a view of a time when an attack on our country unified us, rather than further divided us.
If a major Islamic terrorist attack or an attack by China were to happen today, after the initial shock wore off, we would not pull together, we would not fight together, we would fight each other.
I wish it weren’t so, but if 9/11 and COVID showed us anything, it’s that very thing.
We’re certainly not alone in that regard. Europe has gotten to the point where the only response to terrorist attacks is either cringing political correctness or a circular firing squad. For all the EU Ukraine cheerleading, if Russia invaded France or the UK tomorrow, it would just trigger more infighting. And the Israeli media has once again spent the past few weeks trying to get Israelis interested in the latest ‘hearings’ about whatever fake Netanyahu scandal they’re pushing now as if Oct 7 had never happened.
Countries can survive attacks if they have unity and fortitude. At the moment we have neither. And without that, we’re not really a nation.
I dream of seeing an America that can unite against foreign enemies. After 9/11, I briefly saw that America emerge before it was squashed by cultural warfare and political exploitation. And decades later, I’m not sure how much of it still exists. But I remain hopeful that we can become a nation ready to face our enemies once again.

It seems clear that Communists started infiltrating the government during the FDR administration, but the process hadn’t gone far enough to wreck the country. But it seemed to get worse and worse over time, culminating in the Biden administration. Those WW2 soldiers and sailors really were a great generation.
world@70 says
A Great Generation indeed AA. In 1941 my Dad and his two brothers joined, Dad in the Army Air Corp. his two brothers, twins, also, one in the Navy and the other to the Army, wounded when his tank was hit in the Battle of the Bulge.
Why didn’t that happen after 9/11? Bush and his religion of peace and love speech, might just have caused people to question, who is the enemy? Who should we be pissed at?
SteveFInSC says
Indeed, Bush’s lie confused many. Our enemy is and has been Islam the entire time, not some nebulous “Islamists” or radicals. And, what exactly is the “War on Terror?” That’s like saying the “War on Blitzkrieg” or the “War on Carpet Bombing.” Terror is a tactic, not an ideology. We fought WWII to defeat Nazism, not blitzkrieg. The ideology behind Islamic terror to be defeated is ISLAM!

Well … I know what you mean, but my grandparents were pretty successfully wrecked by the Great Reset No. 1.
What was not wrecked was their faith in the G-d of our fathers, their love of nation, and their ability to read, write, and ‘rith the matic.
Today, I’m not so sure.

Dec. 7 1941 was indeed a different time in America. Mostly white, very few illegals from crap hole countries, almost no women in Congress, especially those angry black women who seem to be bubbling up out of nowhere, like the Squad, and Jasmine Crockett, for example.
One of the reasons we won WWII was we had all of our manufacturing in our country. After the attack you couldn’t keep young men from enlisting. And we didn’t have the squish woke generals like Aunt Millie.
Can we get that back? Education will have to be radically returned to the country. In other words dismantle the Dept of Ed.. and fire the Marxist college professors.
And that is just scratching the surface.
Patriotism must be re-instilled in the populace.
THX 1138 says
Mostly white? Yeh, America was 90% white and Christian back then and those Christian whites voluntarily voted for FDR’s welfare state 4 times.
Socialism in America began with white Christian Americans voting for socialism.
And American Jews too, they have always overwhelmingly voted for the American welfare state.

Who downvoted this reasonable comment? I don’t get it. Is it just because he mentioned white skin color?
Education must change quickly and at all levels. Patriotism must be instilled. Like it or not, if you don’t support your own team, your own family, you don’t support yourself. The same goes for supporting the country you live in. It isn’t about claiming perfection. It IS about self esteem which is the foundation for happiness and ultimately for survival.

It’s the trolls, Cat. FPM is trolled because the Left knows they cannot stand up against the truth bombs being posted by FPM’s contributors.
Some of our comments also trigger them. That’s why the combox is a mess.

That’s one thing most people don’t know: we had most of the world’s industrial capacity back then.

I don’t get the 6 down votes here so it must be trolls, there’s one that goes to Pam Geller’s page. Sad. Imagine spending all your time going to
Places you disagree with., it could lead to suicide…

Sad greetings to all:
Welcome to crumbling civilization !
Crumbling because government does not govern at all.
Government has been and will continue to destroy civilization
until there is only that which was here before government arrived on the scene.
All was lost when we did not think for ourselves and supposedly chose leaders
to think for us !
Sadly, goodbye to all who chose leaders to think for you……………….

Japan’s major targets were the Aircraft Carriers and they were all out to sea including my late fathers carrier the USS LEXINGTON just how much did FDR know about it before it happed ?
Cassandra says
Same goes for Dubya….
Algorithmic Analyst says
That’s an excellent point Spurwing. Possibly another historical mystery which will never be solved.

Revisionists want to believe the Germans and Japanese were just hapless business tycoons who were ruthlessly set upon by the ruthless FDR administration for fun and profit.
Zip forward to today, and the same revisionists point to our endless wars for fun and profit after 9/11 – and to the plandemic war on the Americans – to rewrite the past.
If there’s one thing the Lefties and the Righties have in common … it is the ability to rewrite history to keep up with rapidly changing past events.
