The internet used to be a source of freedom. Now that freedom only exists in edges, cracks, and outlying areas after much of the internet was monopolized by a handful of Big Tech companies. And no company has done more to change the internet than Google. What was once a useful no-frills search engine that ‘ranked’ sites by popularity became its own evil empire that defines what appears and what doesn’t.
(Full disclosure, at some point, after writing critically about Google, its search engine decided I should disappear. The same thing has happened to many conservatives, sites, and entire realms of ideas.)
And as Google expanded its reach to be a browser, Chrome, a dominant OS, Android, a range of hardware, Pixel, and Chromebooks, and ad search alliances, alternatives simply disappeared.
Google’s dream for search was eliminating the actual sites and turning results into summaries. Now it’s closer than ever to its dream with AI summaries. But now a federal judge ruled that its search is a monopoly. The verdict is decades overdue and the penalty will be more likely to inhibit the deals it cut with companies like Apple, but it’s an important step forward to rolling back some of Google’s unchecked power.
And ditto for Big Tech.
There are still few alternatives to Google Search. Where there was once an array of alternative search engines, today there’s Microsoft’s Bing (DuckDuckGo is just Bing’s results anonymized) and Brave Search. The handful of others are even smaller and more fitful. And there may be no further development in the field because everyone is racing to build their own AI empires that will spit out results through chatbots rather than providing actual links in response to queries. But at least there may be a tool for taking on Google.
And that may mean hope for conservatives and conservative ideas.

The much glorified Ai was said to have not recognize the assassination attempt on Trump, stating the event did not occur in reality. When Ai is the arbiter of reality, it shoots itself in its unreal foot. Who can respect or trust such a thing?
It id merely leftwing garbage in fancy shmancy garbage out.

Google demonstrate the old saying, “power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Anyone who has used the Google services for the last several years has seen the increasing slant to the left and denial of conservative views. Doesn’t this make Google a political organization, much like the DNC? HUH!

Duck Duck Go is not an anonymous autonomous search choice. I thought it masked Google but it masks Bing according to our illustrious FP oracle Prof DG. Our tracks and footprints are all over the internet along with our pics with all the freaking cameras all over the place that don’t seem to be catching criminals but rounding up Patriots!
Never trust Ai unless it tells you it loves you – then go back to the first, never trust Ai
The more accurate term of Ai is algorithms upon algorithms with code so algorithms can functional similar to neural synapses. The fact is we have gotten lazier minded with computing to do the probing for us and whatever the results, it’s good enough for me — here’s a hyperlink to prove it. We can no more rely on Ai than the main sleaze media — and here it is – I’m commenting on an article I’m reading on the internet. Oh the humanity!!!

Some claims are just a little too easy to falsify. You “disappeared”? When? I just googled your name and got your face and hundreds of hits to your many, many, many diatribes about how Muslims are not human and electric cars are not cars.
Playing martyr much, Daniel? There you are, on Google. What “entire realms of ideas” are you having trouble finding?
The question of Google and Big Tech’s control of the internet is important, and it should be discussed seriously by serious people. “Google is evil because it’s after me” is not a serious position, Daniel. And you are not a serious person.
