After the Capitol Riot and the abuse of the term “insurrection”, conservatives have retaliated by mockingly using the term “insurrection” for everything.
Except this is the real deal.
The Arizona State Senate Building in Phoenix was evacuated on Friday after police deployed tear gas at demonstrators.
According to a tweet by the Arizona Senate Republican Caucus, the Senate was secure and safe, but smoke and tear gas spread into the chambers.
AP reports that this incident caused lawmakers to shelter in the basement for roughly 20 minutes before they had to flee the building due to the tear gas fumes.
Quintero said protestors gathered around 6 p.m. As they were walking toward the building, she said a sergeant locked the door and Republican Senate President Karen Fann called a recess.
“Everyone was safe and no one was able to breach the building,” Quintero told Insider.
The state’s Attorney General, Mark Brnovich, said that “this wasn’t a peaceful or lawful protest.”
“An angry mob defaced the Arizona Peace Officers Memorial last night, after being dispersed from the State Capitol. This wasn’t a peaceful or lawful protest,” Brnovich said. “We must never tolerate these criminal attempts to tear down our institutions and intimidate our officials.”
Law enforcement officers in Phoenix, Arizona used tear gas to break up a sizable group of protesters outside the state’s Senate building following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade.
“While working inside we were interrupted by the sound of bangs and smell of tear gas,” Rep. Sarah Liguori tweeted Friday evening. “Protestors cleared from the Capitol.”
“We are currently there being held hostage inside the Senate building due to members of the public trying to breach our security,” Senator Townsend tweeted Friday night. “We smell tear gas and the children of one of the members are in the office sobbing with fear.”
Meanwhile, protests elsewhere broke into the usual lefty violence. Here’s Los Angeles.
In Hollywood, the intersection on Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard was blocked off by a large group and has since reopened. No incidents were reported.
Later in the evening, AIR7 HD captured what appeared to be protesters throwing what looked like fireworks at police.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a dispersal order to the area of 4th Street and Main Street, asking citizens to stay away from the area.
Police in riot gear were confronted by several rowdy protesters, some throwing fireworks and items at authorities.
The situation was predictably uglier in Portland.
Dozens of black-clad marchers roamed through the streets of Northeast Portland late Saturday, heading from Grant Park to the Hollywood district and damaging businesses along the way. The “direct action” event was advertised as a response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade on Friday.
“If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either,” read one flier announcing the march. The Portland Police Bureau said the group damaged numerous businesses but it was not able to intervene.
“Officers were monitoring the crowd, but did not have resources to intervene in the moment,” the bureau said early Sunday in a news release. “At the time of this event, there was an injury shooting and a stabbing in East Precinct, and a felony assault in Central Precinct. Additionally, a community festival in North Precinct was underway, an impromptu ‘dance party’ drew approximately 1,000 people to Irving Park, and they held a march and blocked traffic.
Sam Adams, a top aide to Mayor Ted Wheeler, was on scene as officers surveyed the damage to the Hollywood District.
“It’s despicable,” Adams said of the vandalism. “We need more police.”
Police defunding is working out as intended.
Authorities in Oregon arrested 10 protesters who were part of a large crowd supporting abortion rights after the demonstration turned violent.
Police in Eugene, a city about an hour and a half from Portland, said in a news release that protesters clashed with officers and threw smoke bombs during the demonstration at a pregnancy center on Friday night.
These are violent riots incited by Democrats like Pelosi and Maxine Waters. This is an insurrection.
