The ACLU’s exciting new journey from civil rights group to anti-civil rights group continues.
After the Biden administration announced that it was going to come after states that rejected mask mandates on specious civil rights grounds, the ACLU joined the effort to suppress civil rights by filing a civil rights lawsuit arguing that not forcing students to wear masks in schools violated the civil rights of disabled students.
The ACLU’s incoherent argument picks up on the equally incoherent Biden argument about disability protections mean that schools should be allowed to force all students to wear masks.
What this has to do with civil rights is arguable.
Students with disabilities could still wear masks. The ACLU is suing to force all students to wear masks, claiming that the disabled would be more at risk if some students can opt out of wearing masks.
What about students with disabilities, like asthma, whose health is more impacted by having to wear masks?
The ACLU’s novel argument is that civil rights consists of depriving everyone else of their civil rights. But that’s been the new position of the newly woke ACLU which is okay with widespread speech restrictions to protect a select few and other widespread civil rights violations in the name of civil rights. The ACLU has come around to the position that making a civil rights omelet requires breaking a lot of civil rights eggs.
