After a weekend in which over 100 people were shot in Chicago, Mayor Lightfoot is blaming Congress because gangs are running her city.
At the ribbon cutting event, Lightfoot pointed part of the blame at Congress, but said she’s glad to have a president in office that finally “gets it.”
“We are seeing historic levels of violence, what more is it going to take?” Lightfoot asked. “And yet, we see people in Congress sitting on their hands and not doing anything.”
Doing what?
Is Congress supposed to be personally busting gang members in Chiraq? Policing Chicago isn’t the job of the Senate, but of Lightfoot, who ran for office promising to do that job.
Lightfoot critic, Alderperson Anthony Beale, did not attend Tuesday’s event with the mayor, even though Gately borders his ward.
Instead, Beale was writing this letter to Governor Pritzker requesting he send in the National Guard to help Chicago police.
There’s not much point in sending in the military when the justice system isn’t functioning.
Meanwhile Lightfoot and her police boss keep talking about how many guns they “took off the street”. Socialists understandably don’t grasp market demand, but much like drugs, taking guns off the street doesn’t mean a whole lot because the city is full of gangs that want guns.
The problem is not the guns, it’s the gangs.
The pro-crime socialists keep talking about addressing “root causes” and tackling violence “holistically”. Meanwhile gangs are turning Chicago into a holistic hellhole.
