Criminal justice reform killed a whole lot of people in Oregon. Among the exciting pro-crime experiments there was the decriminalization of drugs. Including stuff like meth and fentanyl. The results were surprising to liberals and unsurprising to anyone capable of common sense.
In 2019, 280 people died of a drug overdose in Oregon. Fatalities rose every year after, more than tripling by 2022, when 956 died. And last year, even more people died, according to preliminary data. Each month the number has been higher than the previous year, reaching 628 in June. The state is still compiling data for 2023, but if the trends continue, the total would reach 1,250 deaths from an overdose.
“On average, more than 90 Oregonians die every month from overdoses.”
So of course the people behind this admitted they were wrong and their ideology was fundamentally misguided? Nah.
Instead, they spent the past two years explaining why, like Communism, their experiment in killing everyone was great, only it wasn’t implemented the right way. (That was literally the argument made by ProPublica.)
Still with all the corpses piling up, Oregon reversed course and decriminalized drugs. At least enough to fool the suckers. And by suckers, I mean voters. In practice, the way that ‘deflection’ operates in Oregon, those arrested will be given information about drug treatment facilities. And when that fails to bring overdoses down, the media and ‘experts’ will claim that they were right and decriminalizing fentanyl had nothing to do with the overdoses. And they’ll urge decriminalizing it again.

The whole idea of legalizing the drugs is about protecting the criminal among blacks. Over 50% of them being druggies.
They think it’ll being down the number of black prisoners.
As long as they are in denial over what’s the root cause of blacks committing more crimes than others there will be no solution that works.
Step one is to admit that they have a problem. Blaming others or the law is not the solution to the problem.

I bet any amount of money many of those deaths are from “recreational tourists” because those substances were not decriminalized anywhere else. Kind of like how millions flock to Amsterdam every year.
Those substances that killed 956 people were not legally manufactured , were they? You still had the problem of what causes most OD”‘s , unknown doses, and unknown substances mixed in with the drugs.
I could go on and on punching wholes in your argument of using Oregon as an example of the failure of legalization. But you get the point.
Look at countries that have what is much closer to full legalization. The increase in deaths is minimal(and all those users took the drugs voluntarily) , and all the costs and problems associated with prohibition, dramatically decreased.
So nice try, any one with some brain matter shouldn’t buy this ridiculous notion that drug prohibition is a good thing.

It only takes 2 mg of fentanyl to kill a person and Oregon is being flooded with pills that contain twice that amount. Plus, the author is correct concerning Oregonians being killed as that statement is directly from Oregon’s health authority. Oregon’s teen overdose rate is the fastest growing in the U.S., nearly 600% in only 4 years. Thousands of Oregonians are being treated with Narcan each year, including pre-teens, just to stop the OD effects. Brain damage is on the rise too as it’s a side effect of fentanyl OD. Oregon implemented Measure 110 to decriminalize fentanyl and meth possession, among other drugs, and they had no infrastructure in place to deal with the horrible results of Oregon’s nation leading addiction and OD’s. Globally all countries are dealing with opioid epidemics you idiot and synthetics and fentanyl are responsible for 3/4 of the millions of deaths and OD’s. Do the research and educate yourself before you post ridiculous nonsense again. Better yet, just don’t talk to anyone else, ever, so they won’t be infected by your filth.

100K die annually due to mostly laced drugs and unknown doses due to….,prohibition! If drugs were supplied legally deaths would go down dramatically.
People become criminals due to prohibiton. People became criminals and even resorted to organized crime when alcohol was illegal.
If all drugs were legal (not just decriminalized), the wildest estimates and data from other nations have the number of addicts only increasing by 25 percent as most people would not rush out to become junkies.
Small price to pay as our jail space would free up, police could save billions on wasted resources, the cartels would go out of business, street gangs would no longer exist, and I could go on and on.
What would you hope to be accomplished by continuing this moronic war on drugs? Do you think that some day we will all be living in some pristine drug free utopia?
