Say it with me, “Nothing to do with Islam.”
Frederick Fadi Elrezz, from Lakemba in Sydney’s south west, was arrested and charged with attempted murder at about 12.20am on Wednesday.
He is accused of attacking two officers with a knife and biting a third on York Street in the Sydney CBD.
Soon after, Elrezz allegedly told officers: ‘I wanted to kill a cop in the name of Allah’, The Australian reported.
He also allegedly said ‘Allahu Akhbar’ during his subsequent interview.
So it was a mostly peaceful stabbing.
Mr King said there were about 2500 assaults on officers each year and he urged the government to address community attitudes toward police.
“The government has called for a parliamentary inquiry into it, we welcome that, but we do need to see some movement on that and a shift in community attitudes towards police,” he said.
I don’t imagine there will be much progress made there on the Allah Akbar front.
