Another day, another Allahu Akbar.

A knife attack took place in and around the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption basilica in Nice around 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 29. Three people died, two women and a man, according to police sources in Le Monde . The perpetrator, who repeatedly shouted “Allahu akbar” as he left the building, was shot and wounded.

The first victim, a woman, had her throat cut inside the building; the perpetrator tried to behead her. The second victim, a man, was fatally stabbed. He was the sacristan of the basilica, a layman aged about 45, Canon Philippe Asso told Agence France-Presse (AFP). The third victim was seriously injured, she then took refuge in a cafe in front of the building, where she died a few minutes later.

 No service was being held at the time of the attack, but the doors of this large church located on a busy thoroughfare usually open around 8 a.m. “People come in and pray at any time,” Mr. Asso told AFP.

The Muslim terrorist was also praying in his own way.

The perpetrator of the attack was found in possession of an identity document without photo in the name of Brahim A., a Tunisian national of 21 years, specifies a source close to the investigation in Le Monde . In the absence of a photo, investigators are still trying to verify that this identity is indeed his.

According to this document, Brahim A. would have arrived in Europe via the island of Lampedusa at the end of September, where he had been quarantined by the Italian authorities before being subject to an obligation to leave Italian territory and left free, adds this source. Non-asylum seeker in France, he arrived in the country at the beginning of October.
