Amazon Smile was probably the only non-evil thing that the very evil corporation did.
So that meant it would only last so long.
The premise of Amazon Smile was simple and rooted in an older crowdsourced internet ethos that has mostly gone by the wayside. People used ‘Smile’ links to donate a percentage of their purchases to their favorite charity. Since most charities were able to register, people were generally able to support whatever they wanted. Leftist activists objected to some of the charities that were religious or conservative.
And now Amazon has decided to cancel Amazon Smile and replace it with Amazon Slime.
“In 2013, we launched AmazonSmile to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. However, after almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that we had originally hoped. With so many eligible organizations—more than 1 million globally—our ability to have an impact was often spread too thin.”
That assertion is bizarre. Having 1 million organizations means an unprecedented impact. It also allowed its customers to decide the impact that their spending made.
Now Amazon has decided to cut customers and charities out of the loop. And under its woke new CEO, will focus on woke funding in a way that will ensure that its customers have no say in the matter.
We are writing to let you know that we plan to wind down AmazonSmile by February 20, 2023. We will continue to pursue and invest in other areas where we’ve seen we can make meaningful change—from building affordable housing to providing access to computer science education for students in underserved communities
Affordable and underserved. You know where this is going. Amazon is taking its marbles to score woke points and maximizing its “impact” by focusing on causes where it can pick up political influence.
That’s not new. Most big corporations are doing this. But replacing Amazon Smile with woke corporate influence peddling to targeted identity politics groups is the slimy act of an extremely slimy company.
They probably aren’t making money off it.
They’re making influence off of it….and the other charities now cut off??
Yeah, like Twitter. That company never made money except for it’s executives until Musk took over.
its my fault. I gave my pennies to ZOA when I used to shop on Amazon. I know thats what did it.
lol, good one Cat 🙂
It’s simple, when I used Amazon Smile, the contribution went to my parish Church.
Can’t have that in this society!
Catholic Conservative
Another reason to avoid Amazon as much as possible.
Most”‘Round UP” schemes are susceptable to manipulation and fraud.
Do your own investigation and DONATE to your heart and convictions!
When you substitute personal choices to “someone else”YOU loose!

What a bad kitty you are! (I gave my pennies to one of the Orthodox day schools in my city. It might have been a contributing factor, too.)
It’s hard to not use amazon, but this BS may help with going other routes.
Best view i have ever seen !
