As I noted in, “California Drove Truckers Out of Business. Now Store Shelves Are Empty”, Democrat regulations helped cause the supply chain crisis. AB5, the California Dem union ban on freelance workers, including owner-operator truckers, and environmental regulations demanding idiotic things like electric trucks, are a big part of why California ports are so backed up. 

But Biden’s illegal vaccine mandate is set to make things that much worse.

The American Trucking Associations, which will meet with the OMB on Tuesday, warned the administration last week that many drivers will likely quit rather than get vaccinated, further disrupting the national supply chain at time when the industry is already short 80,000 drivers.

The trucking association estimates companies covered by the mandate could lose 37% of drivers through retirements, resignations and workers switching to smaller companies not covered by the requirements.

That’s over a third.

If you thought Biden’s supply chain disaster was bad now, wait until almost 40% of truckers are gone.

Retailers, who are already short on staff, are offering similar warnings

Retailers are also particularly concerned the mandate could trigger a spike in resignations that would exacerbate staffing problems at businesses already short on people, said Evan Armstrong, a lobbyist at the Retail Industry Leaders Association.

So did manufacturers, who, like the truckers and other business groups, are pushing for exemptions. That’s how the game is played with every regulation and mandate turning into an opportunity for seeking a competitive advantage at the expense of their competitors. 

The National Association of Manufacturers, in a letter to the OMB and OSHA head James Frederick last Monday, asked the administration to exempt businesses from the requirements if they have already implemented companywide mandates, or achieved a certain level of vaccination among employees through voluntary programs if certified by a local public health agency.

Either way though the economy is headed for a disaster.

For the Left, Cloward-Pivening the economy is a feature, not a bug, but considering how badly Biden is polling, the question is whether this administration will be willing to nuke itself to crash the economy and create a constituency for radical socialist change.
