New York City, the city I have lived in and loved for many years, is on the verge of a catastrophe. Zohran Mamdani, an avowed socialist and Israel hater, is the presumed winner of the June 24th Democratic primary for the position of New York City mayor. Normally, the winner of the Democratic primary wins the general election in this overwhelmingly Democratic city, which means that this socialist, 33-year-old state assemblyman is poised to become New York City’s next mayor. The odds of the unpopular current mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent, or the GOP nominee and founder of the Guardian Angels Curtis Sliwa beating Mr. Mamdani in the general election are slim to none.
Zohran Mamdani’s platform is downright scary.
Crime will run rampant in the city under the leadership of Zohran Mamdani, who is anti-police. In the past, he has advocated defunding the police. His current platform uses euphemisms that would amount to essentially the same thing by prioritizing the creation of a new so-called “Department of Community Safety,” which will take “a public health approach to safety” instead of relying primarily on law enforcement officers to combat crime. Mr. Mamdani will have an enthusiastic ally, Alvin Bragg, the pro-criminal Manhattan District Attorney who won the primary vote for DA.
The city’s economy will crash under the leadership of this Marxist who touts city-owned grocery stores, fare-free buses, free childcare, a rent freeze, and other government handouts. All this largesse will come at the expense of already overburdened, successful taxpayers who are the engine of any vital economy, many of whom will leave the city behind for greener pastures.
As Margaret Thatcher wisely said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.”
Jews in New York City will be even less safe than they are now with a mayor who sides with antisemites in refusing to acknowledge that Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish state. Zohran Mamdani also refused to condemn the antisemitic phrase “globalize the intifada” when given a chance. He claimed that the phrase spoke to “a desperate desire for equality and equal rights in standing up for Palestinian human rights,” and he outrageously compared it to how the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising against the Nazis has been described.
Mr. Mamdani has supported the anti-Israel Boycott Divest Sanctions Movement and has labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “genocide.” In short, he hates the Jewish state of Israel.
According to a report by Canary Mission, Mamdani “has been a regular and prominent figure in NYC’s disruptive anti-Israel protest scene that has predominantly been engineered by Within Our Lifetime (WOL), an extremist and violent anti-Israel and anti-American group whose activists have been behind multiple attacks on Jews.” As part of his despicable attempt to target the Jewish state, “Mamdani has pledged to cut off private charitable funding and halt arms shipments to Israel, continuing the anti-Israel agenda he pursued as a state assembly member.” His supporters include such antisemitic, pro-Hamas activists as the infamous Linda Sarsour and House Democrat Representative Rashida Tlaib, a member of the far-left Squad.
Forget about protecting Jewish students, faculty members, and staff who support Israel from being harassed and attacked by pro-Hamas rioters once Zohran Mamdani becomes New York City’s mayor. “I’ve been proud to be the first, and to my knowledge, the only mayoral candidate to have said that I would not have sent the police onto Columbia and CUNY’s campus,” Mamdani said. Instead of calling for the arrest of rioters who cross the line from free speech to committing acts of violence and harassment against Jews, Mamdani said that he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he ever sets foot in New York City.
The Canary Mission pointed out in its report what is at stake for New York City and its Jewish population – the city where more Jews live than in any other city in the world: “A vote for Mamdani is a vote for a pro-Hamas, anti-American disruptive agenda for NYC, including the antisemitic violence that historically has accompanied it. It is a vote for the failed policies of decarceration and defunding the police, policies that have been proven to increase crime in cities across America, particularly against Jews and other minority communities.”
Unfortunately, the Democrats in New York City who voted for this extremist did not listen. With Mamdani as mayor, the city’s economy, safety, and quality of life will go down the tubes, with Jews as usual being “the canary in the coal mine.”
Zohran Mamdani’s march to take over at City Hall has ramifications beyond New York City. It breathes new life into the nationwide anti-oligarchy campaign conducted by Democrat-Socialists Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who endorsed Mr. Mamdani. Mamdani’s victory in U.S.’s largest city will also raise AOC’s profile as the next generation Democrat best positioned to enthusiastically articulate a leftwing populist agenda like Mamdani’s with catchy sound bites that bring young voters out to vote in droves.
The thought that AOC could possibly duplicate Mamdani’s victory on a national level as a presidential candidate is frightening. Fortunately, there should be enough sane voters outside of the likes of New York City, California, and other ultra blue locations to prevent that from happening.
