Some things are so perfect that they were just meant to be. In this case, the two facades of leftist antisemitism joining forces.
I wrote about the campaign against Jewish religious schools in 2019.
The New York State Department of Education now threatens to shut down Jewish schools and report parents who refuse to send their children to leftist government schools to child protection authorities.
The public face of the campaign against Jewish schools is YAFFED or Young Advocates for Fair Education. Its members claim to be the products of Orthodox Jewish schools whose poor education left them so unprepared for the real world that all they were able to do was launch an extremely effective statewide campaign whose press releases and talking points are quoted verbatim in every single media outlet.
As in March for Our Lives, young faces are used to hide the agendas of the old lefties behind the curtain.
While Naftuli Moster, YAFFED’s executive director, plays its equivalent of David Hogg, speaking to media outlets and appearing at forums to discuss the incredible intellectual disadvantage that the same educational system that produced generations of visionary thinkers and geniuses burdened him with, Hannah Rothstein, a not remotely “young” Baruch College prof, serves as its president.
Hannah Rothstein also serves on the board of Footsteps, an organization working to secularize Orthodox Jews and transition them to an irreligious lifestyle. She’s a Trump critic and an Obama supporter. Moster, YAFFED’s public face, is also a Footsteps graduate. Pesach Eisen, a Yaffed member who testified in its cause, is a Footsteps member and a fellow with the radical leftist Jews for Racial & Economic Justice which denies the existence of lefty anti-Semitism even as it defends leftist anti-Semites. Eisen demonstrates how Footsteps and YAFFED act as arms of the broader anti-Jewish Left.
And Moster has, in turn, defended the anti-Semitic Women’s March.
Anita Altman serves on the Board of Directors of YAFFED and her bio boasts of helping numerous Footsteps clients. In 2014, she had signed an angry letter, declaring, “AIPAC speaks for Israel’s hard-line government and its right-wing supporters, and for them alone; it does not speak for us.” The signatories included a range of anti-Israel activists, supporters of BDS and defenders of anti-Semitic terrorism.
Altman has also signed a letter backing anti-Semitic Farrakhan supporter Linda Sarsour.
A year later, I documented the ugly Communist origins of the anti-Israel “Jewish Currents” site.
On a bloody Sabbath in 1929, a Muslim mob massacred the Jewish community of Hebron. The mob used knives, axes, and stones to kill men, women, and children. Many of the women were raped before being murdered.
The Morgen Freiheit, the Communist Party’s Yiddish newspaper in New York, headlined its article, “The Arab Uprising is Spreading – Zionist Fascists Have Provoked the Arab Uprising.”
“It is not innocent blood,” the Communist paper insisted, of the murdered religious students, and families, “It is the blood of people who went to war against another people on alien land.”
A resolution praised the massacre of Jews as a “revolutionary uprising of the Arab masses in Palestine.”
Jewish communities in New York and Chicago reacted by burning copies of the Communist rag, and setting fire to the newsstands that sold it. Many Jewish newspaper sellers announced a boycott of the Freiheit. No one would advertise in the paper and buying it became a badge of shame. Anyone with the least bit of decency resigned. The remaining staff were expelled, reviled, and even beaten in the streets.
Like other Communist papers, the Morgen Freiheit endorsed the Hitler-Stalin pact. In response, Jewish workers assaulted Communists who tried to defend their alliance with the Nazis, calling them, “Communazis”, and taunting them with chants of, “Heil Hitler.” Even Freiheit staffers who had defended the massacre of Jews in Hebron began to drop out of the Communist paper.
80 years after the Hitler-Stalin pact, Bernie Sanders wrote an editorial, “How to Fight Antisemitism” for the Freiheit’s latest incarnation, Jewish Currents. The magazine had not run in Yiddish for a long time. And, officially, it was no longer Communist. Instead, you could see articles like, “In Defense of Marxism”, “Raya Dunayevskaya and Marxist Humanism”, and “Why I’m (Still) a Marxist”.
And now, in a perfect marriage almost as good as that of the Communazis, Naftuli Moster has taken his backer’s campaign to destroy Jewish schools to Jewish Currents.
Moster rants that, “disappointingly, some progressive officials have gone out of their way to pander to the most extreme factions of the Haredi community. Last year, Democratic Socialist Assembly member Emily Gallagher’s chief of staff, Andrew Epstein, traveled from Brooklyn to suburban Tarrytown to attend an annual celebration by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Committee (OJPAC), an organization that has openly pushed Covid denialism, vaccine skepticism, and anti-education propaganda.”
Meanwhile, Moster is now officially aligned with a publication that supports BDS and defends the call by From The River To the Sea to destroy the Jewish State.
JC ran one piece blaming Israel for the murder of Jews by the site’s terrorist allies, arguing that, “The recent wave of Palestinian attacks on Israelis come as other options have been delegitimize.”
Here’s a celebratory article about terrorists escaping prison, “A Prison Break Liberates the Palestinian Political Imagination”
“After six Palestinian detainees escaped the maximum-security prison of Gilboa in northern Israel on September 6th, mass euphoria reverberated across the occupied Palestinian territories. Celebrations erupted in the West Bank cities of Jenin and Hebron as well as in Gaza: People on the street waved flags and handed out sweets while drivers honked their horns in jubilation. To many, the prison break was a symbolic victory over the occupation and its infrastructure… They also shared memes of Zakaria al-Zubeidi, one of the six fugitives—formerly a leading figure with the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade… Online, many prayed for the escapees’ safety. “
Zakaria al-Zubeidi went so far that he was locked up by his own people, not for killing Jews, but his fellow Arab Muslims. The murders of Jews were not a problem, to the terrorists or to the Jewish Currents leftists.
“Yet as HonestReporting Canada has previously pointed out, Zubeidi himself is a terrorist leader who planned a series of deadly attacks in which at least nine Israeli citizens and one foreign worker were killed, including a November 28, 2002 attack that killed six and wounded thirty at a Likud voting station.”
This is what Naftuli Moster and Yaffed are now officially aligned with.
There is no distinction between the leftist war on Jewish bodies and on Jewish education.
