I can still hear those chants of “No blood for oil” from forty years ago. Among antiwar activists, it was an undeniable fact that we were bombing Iraq to get at that sweet crude. In reality, American oil companies hardly touched the stuff.
But in a brilliant irony, a country finally has invaded an area to seize its oil and it’s the favorite dictatorship of antiwar activists everywhere. The sovereign inflationary narcoterrorist Marxist hellhole of Venezuela has finally launched a war for oil.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of a military division for the Guyana Essequiba area, which the country claims as its own, particularly after Sunday’s referendum, it was reported in Caracas. The Essequibo is home to 125,000 of Guyana’s 800,000 citizens.
Maduro also proposed a law to implement the results of Sunday’s referendum, in which Venezuelans unilaterally approved the annexation of the territory of almost 160,000 square kilometers. It is an “organic law to regulate the creation of the state of Guayana Esequiba,” he explained.
He also confirmed the creation of a military division with its headquarters in Tumeremo.
Given the military build-up in the region, Guyanese authorities said Tuesday that the UN Security Council would be approached for help. Guyana’s Attorney General Anil Nandlall told AFP that ”any action or any attempt to take any action pursuant to the referendum will necessitate a resort to the UN Security Council as an injured party.“ He also said Guyana would invoke Articles 41 and 42 of the UN Charter which can authorize sanctions or military action to maintain or restore international peace and security.
What’s Maduro after? Blood for oil, of course.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday directed the country’s state-owned companies to “immediately” begin to explore and exploit the oil, gas and mines in Guyana’s Essequibo region, a territory larger than Greece and rich in oil and minerals that Venezuela claims as its own.
The thing to remember about leftists is that the thing they accuse you of, is the thing that they are either doing or want to do.
The old antiwar lefty crowd, which always consisted of Marxists, have justified Venezuela’s annexation by claiming that Guyana is run by oil companies. So really it’s a kind of nationalization and liberation. Leftists always have rationalizations for the wars they want to start and the countries they want to invade. And given the right motive, “No blood for oil” can easily become, “Blood for oil, yeah!”

Surely the Venezuelan Marxists will heed calls for a cease fire to allow international humanitarian aid for the innocent Guyanese.

Western civilization no longer has Christian moral authority, whose principles alone can govern the base impulses of mankind.
The “return of the strong gods” beckons the return of these all-too-human barbarities. Human barbarity is the most universally denied and yet demonstrably true aspect of our nature bereft of the LORD God.
Micah 6:8 “He has told you, mortal one, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God.”

My little tangent is that Venezuela would have plenty of oil if the government had the intelligence to treat production of their oil in a rational way.

Yes, Canada is able to extract oil from tar sand. Venezuela has so much oil deposits that it should be one of the richest countries in the world.

Socialism is a religion to many of its nutty followers. Part of its mantra is the whole world has to be proselytized in order for it to work.. Guyana just demonstrates once again that believers in socialism never have to apply any moral code on any issue because of this belief that the cause and advancing it is the only thing that can be judged. The protest action is never important and neither is normal decency or morality..
