A major lefty meme is that the authorities treat right-wing terrorists with kid gloves while cracking down on Islamic terrorists. This is another reminder of the velvet gloves with which the authorities handle lefty terrorists. We don’t even need to go back to the Weathermen whose members got a pass and jobs in the cultural establishment.
Here’s a recent ecoterrorist attack which left thousands of people in the cold with no heat.
The city of Aspen entered a local state of emergency on Tuesday following a natural gas outage reportedly caused by vandalism.
The declaration gives Acting City Manager Scott Miller “the tools to protect public health and safety including sheltering vulnerable populations and accessing properties to protect vulnerable properties or individuals,” according to a statement from the city.
The outages come after three Black Hills Energy natural gas sites in the area were vandalized on Sunday, two of which included references to the radical environmental advocacy group “Earth First,” The Aspen Times reported. Local law enforcement is leading the investigation with the help of FBI resources, according to the Times.
Pitkin County Commissioner Patti Clapper said the vandalism was “almost, to me, an act of terrorism,” according to the Times.
But the authorities are quickly running away from any harsh language despite the misery caused by the ecoterrorist attack.
While the Federal Bureau of Investigation is aiding local authorities, law enforcement Monday afternoon tried several times to soften the language being used to describe the event — potential felonies occurred, yes, but not ecoterrorism or even attacks, Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo emphasized.
“I know that word’s been thrown around a lot — it’s not the word I would use to characterize this event. I would say it is an intentional act to disrupt gas service and the surrounding area with felony level criminal nature,” he said during Monday afternoon’s media briefing on the matter. “I think ‘attack’ may be a mischaracterization, at least from my perspective and somewhat hyperbolic.”
And Earth First? The authorities have “reached out”.
That said, the APD has identified general contact information and have reached out — though, Linn made clear Monday, investigators are not implicating the movement in any criminal activity.
“We have called them, yes. We did find a contact number on one of the fliers or the webpage or something like that,” Linn said while handing out space heaters from outside the department Monday night. “We called and talked to an individual and emailed multiple individuals. The whole point is we’re not accusing the organization of something because … the organization is made up of individuals. That’s not to say the individual or individuals responsible for this in some way affiliate themselves with this.”
That’s to say we’re not about to offend the wealthy lefties who are the real people here by throwing the book at whichever of their kids did this. Nor are we going to offend Earth First’s wealthy supporters despite the misery that ecoterrorists cause. Not when they’re the ones in power.
