It’s okay Mayor Young, no one in Baltimore follows the laws anyway. That’s why it’s Baltimore and its mayors end up in jail.
The White House said earlier this week that the President and First Lady will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at the site on Monday “to honor the American heroes who have sacrificed their lives serving in the US Armed Forces.” The hoisting of the American flag after the fort defended Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812 inspired the poem that came to be known as “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
“We don’t need to be spending our resources for the president who’s coming here under our orders to stay at home. I think he’s violating the law,” Mayor Young said.
What law?
Maryland lifted its stay at home order and, in any case, no state can bar a presidential visit. Baltimore’s stay at home order is certainly not going to apply to the Commander in Chief. And, in any case, if local politicians and the media are deemed essential, the guy in charge of the country is very obviously essential.
“That President Trump is deciding to pursue non-essential travel sends the wrong message to our residents, many of whom have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 virus,” Young said in a statement. “I wish that the president, as our nation’s leader, would set a positive example and not travel during this holiday weekend.”
Trump isn’t going on vacation to Baltimore. Only suicidal people do that. He’s participating in a national commemoration for Memorial Day. Baltimore did change its city motto to Birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner at some point.
Is Young aware of this?
