When the media and lefty academics tried to fake a huge death toll in Puerto Rico, they did it using dubious statistics based on shaky population estimates. And then they baked that statistical cake to produce an excess deaths estimate.
Then they tried to pass off their excess deaths numbers as the real death toll so they could blame it on President Trump.
Excess deaths means comparing the current number of deaths to what those numbers were in previous years, and assuming that the excess is due to the catastrophe currently underway.
Excess deaths can be a useful number, but under abnormal conditions, it needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Excess deaths during a lockdown may be people dying at home of the virus,
or people dying because they’re too afraid to go to the hospital
or people dying because hospitals decided to postpone elective surgeries for such minor conditions as cancer or cardiac problems
or people dying because they’re depressed, isolated, out of work, and are killing themselves
or people dying in hospitals and facilities because of a lack of staff care and outside patient support
And so on and so forth
Treating excess deaths as due entirely to the virus is dishonest and anyone doing it should be innately distrusted.
