The working theory here is that if Biden, the Democrats, and their media keep insisting that a recovery is here loudly enough, people will disregard the inflation, price hikes, and economic fears and live in this imaginary world that is entirely detached from economics.
Socialism is great in theory, but it’s terrible in practice. So is Biden’s economy.
So the plan here is to accuse anyone who notices that the economy is terrible, which by last count is over almost three-quarters of Americans, of talking down the recovery with their pessimism.
President Biden on Friday sharpened his attacks against Republicans on the economy, accusing them of “talking down” the economic recovery as he lauded the decline in unemployment and job growth during his first year in office.
Speaking to reporters from the State Dining Room, Biden called GOP claims that he isn’t addressing inflation “malarkey” and accused Republicans of characterizing the economic recovery in negative terms because they voted against the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief law that provided funding for school reopenings, COVID-19 vaccine distribution and additional relief for Americans.
You mean the school reopenings that Biden’s unions are busy shutting down? Also if you’ve got to keep handing out free money to people, the economy isn’t doing well.
Republicans don’t have to characterize the economy in negative terms. Nor do they need to talk it down. They’re just addressing the reality of popular discontent.
Yhe poll shows that the economy is the top priority for nearly all parties and demographics and 73% of voters say the U.S. economy is in “poor” or “not so good shape,” up 17 points from a year ago. A 60% majority disapprove of the way President Biden is handling the economy, a 6-point decline in approval since the CNBC and Change Research poll in late August, and voters give Biden a “C” grade on his handling of the economy. Voters also disapprove of Biden’s handling of kitchen table issues like the price of everyday goods (72% disapprove).
If only those 73% of Americans would stop “talking down” Biden’s super-fantastic economic recovery.
