Despite putting some aggressively anti-Israel figures on the Israel-PLO beat, the Biden administration has had limited interest in the Jewish State. There were too many domestic concerns and Russia-Ukraine had managed to suck most of the foreign policy oxygen out of the room.
That may be about to change.
After Israeli voters backed a center-conservative coalition to be led by Netanyahu, the Biden administration has fired the first shot even before the new government takes office.
The inciting incident here is the death of Qatar’s propagandist Shireen Abu Akleh operating on behalf of the Islamic terror state’s Al Jazeera network, favored by Jihadists from Osama bin Laden to Hamas.
Abu Akleh died while operating in a warzone back in May. No one is sure who killed her, but Islamic terrorists and Israeli soldiers were in a firefight at the time. The terrorists and their political allies blame Israel. (Google’s micro-capsule summary outrageously describes the terror network employee as being “assassinated”.) They’ve tried to turn her into another Khashoggi with a permanent blood libel.
The Biden administration predictably leaned into that narrative, but didn’t go any further.
The U.S. Justice Department recently informed the Israeli Justice Ministry that the FBI has opened an investigation into the death of Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed in May while covering an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, Israeli officials said Monday.
Why it matters: Such an investigation is highly unusual. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz called the FBI decision “a grave mistake” and said Israel will refuse to cooperate.
The investigation could lead to a U.S. request to investigate the soldiers who were involved in the operation — a request Israel would almost certainly reject.
The investigation could also lead to tensions between the Biden administration and the Israeli government.
As it’s meant to do.
This is the first of a number of manufactured crises that the Biden administration is ginning up aimed at the incoming Netanyahu government.
Why use the FBI to launch an investigation of Israeli actions against Islamic terrorists now? And where are all the FBI investigations of American citizens killed by PLO-backed terrorists funded by taxpayer money?
Biden’s NSC spokesperson called the Qatari terror network’s propagandist, “a fearless reporter whose journalism and pursuit of truth earned her the respect of audiences around the world.”
The timing here is pretty clear. The Biden regime is preparing to renew Obama’s assault on Israel.
According to some verifiable accounts I’ve read, the Palestinians were most likely responsible for Abu Akleh’s death. Yet the Israelis accepted responsibility. No one can say for sure who was the “guilty” party, but, for some reason, the Palestinians felt it necessary to mutilate the bullets in a way that couldn’t be rejected as a non-Israeli brand of ammunition. To me, it seems quite obvious that the bullet did not come from an Israeli gun. Nevertheless, the Israelis were ready to take on the charge. Why, I wondered.
And then I remembered a similar case where a young “settler” was accused of invading a Palestinian neighborhood and setting fire to a home where an infant died of smoke inhalation. The evidence, there as well, suggested it was committed by Palestinians who had a dispute with the family where the house was set aflame. But, the arrested Israeli was, as he claimed later on, tortured and confessed to the crime. The most incriminating fact was some kind of settler insignia, that according to most testimony, was improperly conceived. I thought then, as I’m inclined to believe now, that Israel is so willing to prove its lack of anti-Palestinian animosity, its absolute fairness in deciding criminal cases, that she is going to accept “guilt” despite evidence to the contrary. What do you think is going on here?
great summation, we’ve seen this repeatedly, complete with the useless apologies and the efforts to bend over backward to prove Israel’s righteousness which accomplishes the exact opposite
One strange thing, is that up until the point where Israel said there was some possibility that an Israeli soldier shot the woman, everything I had seen indicated that it was the Pallys who shot her. That put me into cognitive dissonance that still continues.
“The most incriminating fact was some kind of settler insignia, that according to most testimony, was improperly conceived.” Reminds me of our own hate crime hoaxers who put up backwards swastikas.
To the DemoCrap scum bags in the FBI – Go away, STFU, and die a slow painful death.
It’ll be interesting to hear which leftist Jews cooked this up.
Abbas knew that all he had to do was wait it out, until Biden was elected, and Pay for Slay would resume.
